Yeah it is strange that my gut instinct when I saw trailers for both Fire Island and Bros was "oh no they're gonna be competing against each other" and not "look at all this GAY STUFF i can watch". Loved Fire Island and very excited for Bros. Very cool that these guys have a working history together and enthusiasm for each other's projects!

Joel talking about queer friendships was soooo true. Too often LGTBQ+ characters are always alone within a group of cishet characters, which is fine. However, in my own experience and witnessing of the world, that's just not really true. My friend-group is almost entirely queer and those friendships and support systems are just incredibly important to showcase. I know most other friend-groups and networks I am frequently around are also largely queer. I've found them to be a key part of the queer experience (for myself) and I know many of my friends feel the same. There is something so precious about queer friendships that cannot be shown in media when an LGBTQ+ character is alone.

what rise is this video talking about? their movie just flopped. keep seething and blaming audiences for the complete dearth of talent and actual good writing among the woke entertainment crowd.

Well he insulted the audience blamed homophobia. I wouldn't consider him a pillar of the community. There's been plenty of gay cinema, it doesn't appeal to everyone. That's why a lot are low budget. I think he's an entitled jerk. I won't be seeing it because of his hissy fit. You're over 40 billy

Not that any straight people should have to relate to exact situations, but I think most straight/bi women can relate to the revenge porn fear in Fire Island. Anybody can relate to some aspect of dating and liking someone romantically no matter what gender or what sexuality the main characters have. It appeals to most humans. I'm happy for the LGBTQ community . . .I am hoping this extends to the disabilities community . . .(specifically high functioning independent adults in their 30s-40s with autism . . .because I'm bias and need something to relate to). 🤓

It’s very typical and telling that with all the gay Rom Coms that preceded this that have a mostly African American cast, they got nearly no recognition or exposure with media. We had to learn about them from social media or word of mouth. It’s so unfair. The only Gay themed film to really get any media attention, was “Moonlight “. Yes, it’s brilliant, but it’s a heavy film to watch. There have been some great LGBTQ films done by director Patrick Ian-Polk for example. I’m not motivated to go see a gay themed movie where black characters are not represented. People should give a watch to “The SkinNY “, “Noah’s Arc:Jumping The Broom”., “Elliot Loves” , “Punks”, “Finding Me” and many others.

Here is a gay role that has yet to be portrayed: a 50-something HIV Survivor who shows the effects of lipodystrophy from the first generation protease inhibitors. His memories of dead friends and lovers, of being part of ACT-UP and volunteering at AIDS hospices, a community that has moved on and a generation of youth who do not share such traumatic memories, and wonder why he is single, and more to the point, why his face and body look the strange way they do. He marched the marches, he organized the first Pride Parades and served on other Boards, he gave away his youth to the cause and endured HIV Stigma and ignorance, and by the time U=U became a thing, his youth had passed. He has withdrawn and lives alone with his records and CD's and DVD's and memories... Can Hollywood take this tragedy and turn it into something hopeful?

I really wanted to like Fire Island, but I didn't. And as a gay man I feel like I need to support it and love it so it makes me feel bad. I also have to admit I don't understand a lot of the "gay" jokes or even the gays calling each other "girl". I find it odd. Never call me girl. Besides that, I'm very excited to see Bros and I'm with Joel. I need a gay superhero! So far only The Old Guard was able to give me the gay action heroes I longed for with Joe and Nicky. I also think that Phastos in Eternals was great. He doesn't get enough praise.

Or like a gay person that nobody likes as a person not just cause they're gay I just feel like why does everything have to have a happy ending maybe we need a tragic gay movie
@BlairMountainNetwork2 жыл бұрын
Lol... You're obviously straight. ALL gay characters historically had tragic endings in movies 🎥 (re: a documentary called "The Silver Screen" or something like that) ... The message sent to us LGBTQ folks is that we NEVER could have a happy ending, we are almost always the villains or must receive an untimely gruesome death or something like that (i.e. unrequited love, arrests, etc)... It's only been recently (like the past 4-5 years) that we've had more positive representation in TV or film.
@smurfette_blues79222 жыл бұрын
Tbf, the gay story with a happy ending is still a relatively new trope. But yes. This doesnt mean that we should have one over the other. We should be open to all creative queer voices, even when one voice doesnt represent everyone. Every story counts.
@queertales Жыл бұрын
It was pretty much a requirement back in the day that if you had a gay character in a movie, it had to end tragically for the gay character, so there is plenty of those movies around.
