I LOVE how Poorna Jagannathan (Devi’s mom) is excited about her character’s love interest, who is, the way she said it, sooo hot. When Dr. Jackson and she first kissed on the show was a fulfillment despite the circumstances. And also I’m rooting for Kamala and Mr. K, the way he looked at her when she showed up at the school last episode season 2 was so heart-warming and vibrating. I’m neither TEAM Paxton or TEAM Ben. I guess I like Ben a little more, but it’s gotta be admitted that Paxton went through a lot of positive changes.

Tbh, cos they’re teens and Devi is still in a process of maturing and development. I’m ok with her end up with either guys or no boyfriends at all. Most important thing is she learn to become better in her decisions and control her anger whenever needed. AKA Team Devi. One of my best friend had her mother died 2 years ago, she’s not a teenager anymore but to get over that and becoming more mature does take time. I witness her rant and angry but she’s maturing and handling them better. And still in the process while seeing a therapist as well.

i see people misinterpreting Paxton in the comments (idk how yall manage to do this when the show did such a good job of fleshing him out) so i'll spell it out for yall: BEN is a reflection of Devi. They are very much the same. PAXTON is the sense of normalcy Devi has projected onto him. She put all her dreams of popularity and wanting to forget her father's death onto Paxton. BOTH of these dynamics are worthwhile and special in their own ways, and Devi could very well end up with either or neither of them, and it would make a good story either way (if the writers do it right, that is). Ben and Devi are both prickly insecure (lovable) assholes. They both strive to have more popularity than the other- Ben dates Shira for popularity and Devi also wants to become popular by getting w hot jock Paxton on the way. They're dynamic is i-know-all-the-worst-parts-of-you-because-were-the-one-and-the-same. That's why even when they're 'enemies and spitting curses at each other, there's an intimacy between them of knowing each other best. BUT ben/devi shippers shouldn't use this to put down Paxton/Devi's dynamic, which is just as complex! If Ben/devi is the enemies-to-lovers dynamic, Paxton/Devi is the jock/nerd trope. Except there's something special about Paxton/Devi. Usually in the jock/nerd trope, it's the jock guy that doesn't really the nerd girl for who they really are, but when it comes to Devi/Paxton, it's Devi who's the one that isn't seeing Paxton for who he really is. When Devi's dad dies, she refuses to deal with her grief so she decides to fixate on her crush on Paxton. She sees Paxton as a means to not have to deal with her trauma. She even says to Dr. Ryan "hot people don't have problems", so she subconsciously she believes that getting with Paxton will make her problems go away. But Paxton doesn't know all this. All he knows is that this girl who's kind of snarky and kind of funny, is into him. And along the way, you can see that he genuinely starts to like her. Like when he rescues her at parties and then genuinely asks her what she was thinking, and doesn't laugh when she says she thought the coyote was her dad. Paxton isn't interested in hurling insults like Ben/Devi, he's honest about how he feels to Devi. That's why when it turns out Devi inadvertently spread rumors about them having sex he's hurt, because he feels like he's been used, which Devi kind of was. That's not to say that Paxton is *just* a prize to Devi, she really does like him, and he's shown to her that he's a good listener and also reliable in a crises, so she's able to often confide in him. It's just that Devi is still a little too wrapped up in her trauma to ~fully~ appreciate him for who he is, whereas Paxton's not the one who has that problem (and people will say that he called her a nerd in the last episode, and I'll reply that he was just trying to convince *himself* of that fact, not that he genuinely believes it. And he said it bc Nalini deeply wounded him the previous episode when she called him dumb so he tried to avoid Devi to avoid dealing with his own insecurities). But that could very well change in season 2. If the writers want to make Ben/Devi a thing, it could be probably play out like Devi realizing that Ben knew all the worst parts of her and still stays, and developing into romance. But if the writers want to make Paxton/Devi a thing, it could be and important lesson for Devi to stop projecting her trauma onto other people and see them for who they really are, which is Paxton being his own person that's been there for her, and not just some hot jock that doesn't have any problems, and most importantly is honest and kind. Someone who would inspire her to be better. Both of these relationships are incredibly important to the show and both dynamics bring out interesting parts of Devi, so let's not bash any characters, especially if/when Devi ends up with one or the other. Anyway, I just had to get that off my chest because the way y'all talk about Paxton makes me wonder if ppl even watched the show, or if they just watched the Ben/Devi scenes and closed their eyes for the rest of it. I love Paxton because he's so much more than what Devi, Ben, or even the viewers think he is. He consistently proves himself better than their assumptions when he's kind and caring and also he's attractive. He's the whole package and I think that's why so many fans have such a knee-jerk reaction to disliking him- because he's simply better than y'all lmfao. also it makes me sad bc there are soo many people who disregard or blatantly misinterpret Paxton, and with how writers nowadays check what fans are saying to cater to them instead of simply trying to write a good story, i have a feel devis either going to be with ben or alone since no one favors paxton.

i kinda want to see their relationship last for a few episodes before something comes up. the alternate route will be to let devi and ben be the settled couple and explore the differences in culture and customs and devi's trauma regarding her dad's death that paxton helps with, and have devi's mom accept paxton- thus creating focus on the lives of the friends and devi's family. the constant shift between these 2 boys will end up making the show go sour if it keeps getting repeated

Paxton was never ashamed of Devi for who she was though. He had a moment where he was trying to convince himself why he shouldn't date her, probably because he'd never felt that way about a girl before and she wasn't like anyone he'd been involved with. Let's also just remember that Devi was trying to use him for sex in the very beginning of the show. I think he changed his mind on that to protect himself, and Nalini had absolutely hurt him by saying he's not smart, etc. He didn't want to date her publicly because she cheated on him, not that he was embarrassed of her. Prior to that, he embraced her in the hallway, invited her to hang out with his friends (which sounds like was common for people he dated), and sought her out immediately at her going away party. When they started back up, he just had been humiliated by her in front of his peers and he needed some time to process that. Was it the best way to do it? Probably not, but I also see it as him trying to protect himself and his self worth. People WOULD question why he'd go back to a girl who cheated on him and inadvertently ended his swimming career. It didn't take him long to figure out though that he didn't care what people thought about HIM (again, not Devi), and got out there and did what made both him and Devi happy. So I don't see that as embarrassment at all. I do also think Paxton and Devi have things in common - they talked for hours and didn't just have a physical relationship. You have to have things in common if you can talk that long to someone without getting sick of them! I can see it going either way, but I think Paxton's calmness is better for her.

I think they have chemistry. Sure, there's a much more physical aspect to their relationship but they're also shown talking and hanging out and Devi is having so much fun and is relaxed. She's such and anxious girl with so much rage, that it's nice to see her just enjoying herself. She needs to see Paxton as a human with feelings though and less of a prize. That's immaturity on her part, thinking his looks and status were the most important parts of him, even though she does see the deeper parts of his personality...I just don't think she always registers it. They do have a lot of the same values though, especially as Paxton grows.

I really hope that Devi resolves her trauma in season 3 and that the show focuses on story and character development instead of milking an influential show into numerous seasons with blurred stories. I hope that Kamala doesn't only grow as a student both also learns to communicate how she wants to be treated to Prashant. I feel like he wasn't treated that fairly this season. I mean being a minority in STEM does require you to take the high road sometimes so his advice as reasonable. Might not be the best, but reasonable. For Kamala to just ditch their dinner to go be with the teacher, felt like she treated him wrong by not communicating. Honestly, I want what's best for paxton and Ben, even if that means not ending up with Devi.

Hear me out: Ben is better for Devi, but Paxton is a better person. Paxton is well-adjusted and kind, he has flaws but he works through them without blaming anyone else, he's not petty or jealous or angry or cruel, he forgives easily and doesn't retaliate. We can't say the same things about Ben. Honestly Paxton deserves way better than Devi, who uses him and lies to him and cheats on him, and generally treats him like an object rather than a person. Paxton never objectifies or lies to Devi - when he is ashamed to be with her in public, he has good reason to be. However Paxton is not a good fit with Devi. They don't have a lot in common and their personalities don't work well together. Conversely Ben pushes Devi intellectually and emotionally, he knows her better than almost anyone else and isn't afraid to challenge her. He and Devi are equal partners. I think deep down Devi knows that Ben is more suitable and likes him more - but because she's liked Paxton for so long, she can't give up the dream of being with him. My hope for Season 3 is that Devi and Paxton grow and mature through their relationship, and part ways at the end of the season on good terms and knowing more about themselves. (Then I hope Paxton finds someone else who can see past his good looks and likes him for who he is - and treats him right!)

Noo I was so excited for Paxton to be who Devi ends up with :( Sure he’s popular and has the stereotypical characteristics that come along with that, but with a few pushes from Rebecca he finally realizes his feelings for Devi. He breaks out of that naive conceitedness side to him and really gets to explore his true nature despite the risk of possibly losing friends or popularity in the process. There’s a genuine willingness to become better and disregard to what everyone else thinks and that’s what is really pulling me to team Paxton😭 I see why people would be on team Ben because there isn’t that risk of getting hurt because of how much he would care for or choose popularity over devi but what he got angry at Devi for, he did to aneesa. He chose to cut Devi out of his life ok? So why is he trying to get Devi back or get angry at the fact that it’s “always” been Paxton? (Which it has not been). Like Aneesas already been through enough, why would he do anything that may possibly put her through even more. Like idk, HEARTBREAK. You can argue that because of that risk, it shows how much he really cares for and likes Devi but then that evens it out for both team Ben and team Paxton. Paxton’s never known better which is why he was such a douche but now that he’s had his eye opener, I think now is when we should really see what kind of person he is. For the long run, Ben and Devi are the most likely to last because of shared interests, similar traits and whatnot, but with Paxton, Devi has someone to push which gives her a sense of balance with all the drama that comes with her life. And when it comes to comfort, paxton does it best! Instead of putting in his two cents, he asks Devi how she’s doing wants to do what he can to make her feel better. He’s always looking to do grow as a person, like come on😩

I'm not saying Paxton is a clean guy but why do Ben gets to cheat all the time and gets away with it unlike what happened to Devi (If I were a guy, you would high-five me right now). Now that she started to move on, like what Ben did so quickly with Aneesa, he thinks he has the right to be angry. Paxton's character build up hopefully gets better season 3 that he'll be able to stand besides Devi.

@Sara Mathurasingh no they kissed in the car when he was with the gf. Devi kissed him. He broke up with Shira then. I’ll have to go back and rewatch but I’m sure that’s the order of events. When Devi kissed him he realised his actual feelings were real for her and knew he had to break up with S before getting into anything with D. But also I’m just remembering now he tried to kiss Devi twice at his bday party
