Maxinov Marks I think he leaned onto the idea of Grrm that everything beyond westeros is seen from the perspective of a maester. And they can only Tell what others have said that’s why the further you go east, the more mysterious everything gets. Yi Ti for example where emperors are said to live 10.000 years etc. I feel like the creator of this video stayed with this view and created a really intriguing video! Great job

It kind of reminds me of the "here be dragons" maps that were popular in medieval Europe. It was common to "fill in the blanks" with whatever their imagination could come up with. I think the fables presented here are an awesome parallel to our own point in history, in which the edges of maps were filled with the unknown, or filled with tales that could not be proved or disproved, which only added to the mystique. I would think a world that is in the midst of their own medieval period (for lack of a better term), would have similar maps. That is the great part of this, is that it makes sense for people of this place, in this time period of their history, to make maps filled with magic and unknowns, exactly like this.

If you take a look at old European maps (like 11-12th century old), you will see that in the places they knew there was land, but did not know anything about that land, they drew dragons and all sorts of creatures...same here, where people didn't know anything but the existence of land, they made up stories...GRRM declared that all the lands that they speak of in the story but never show up, are there in order to show how little people knew about the world

Actually if you look into it enough. It reveals that some of the iron born couldn’t have been from the first men because the first men didn’t have ships. That’s why they crossed on the arm of Dorne. But that’s just why I’ve come to conclude.

In my opinion the years are exaggerated. My belife is that the timeline is a lot shorter. All of those things could have easily happened in around 1000 maybe 2000 years. And by the way, the first men definitely had ships. There is a line about the North raiding Andalos. Also the iron islands are not very far.It may be posible to reach the islands with small boats. To conclude,if this were true,the andals tougth the ironborn the art of ship construcion,this sounds rediculius.

That’s actually somewhat sad. World history, the struggle of our ancestors has like the most amazing lore ever and it’s not even close. Like most fascinating things, stories and plots we see in fantasy worlds are directly inspired by world history. However I don’t blame all of you because history in school is mostly presented in a very boring way, also not that many good historical shows or movies exist. And these fantasy worlds are presented in a way that makes readers and/or viewers love it(that’s why I’m here)

Reminder that in Medieval times European travellers made up all sorts of myths about the people and fauna of africa and asia, and grrm has said that the increasingly weird descriptions of places as you go further from the place the story is centered around is just to reflect this. In reality, sothoryos and ulthos are probably as "normal" as westeros and essos, just with basilisks and manticores instead of dragons and direwolves.

Really like the map makes a lot of sense but Sothoryos is a bit small and I think while the Novii are quite cool they're prolly a bit too high fantasy especially with them having such a developed civilisation would make them more tribal and more gritty probably but everything else really seems to fit in if of course imagined in a more low fantasy light.

The ironborn are first men, and the Dornish are a mix of Andals, first men, and mostly Rhoynar. As for the Reach and Stormlands, they are mostly first men who adopted Andal culture.

I appreciate your efforts, it's a pretty well thought map. But may I suggest to tone down the magical elements? The reason why is even in the real world, there were exaggerated stories about the eastern/western worlds before and during the age of exploration. These kind of stories may exists in planetos, which makes ordinary stuffs to be "magical" It may be possible that the winged man civilization is nothing more but a civilization that recently discovered air balloon etc anyway, that's just my thoughts and feel free to do anything with it. Nevertheless, good video!

I Putu Satyena Pande the magical elements follow the same way that GRRM has explained most of the canon world outside Westeros & some of Essos. This is all written from the POV of the Westerosi, so obviously they would know next to nothing about most of the world outside their continent and nearby lands. Maps were had just as many “magical elements” in our world during the Middle Ages.

@@VologdaMapping In Warhammer Lustria in the south has Lizard men, in the east in Warhammer we have Nippon (which is like Japan). The mountains that divide Essos or rather the Dorthraki grasslands in the middle (can't remember which) are the mountains exactly in the same continent in Warhammer i.e. 'The Eastern Steppes' where the goblins live in the mountains etc The Lands of Always Winter are where the Chaos hordes live, in all fairness the undead in Warhammer are in the equivalent place of Eastern Europe so not quite the same as GoT world.

Nice try for expanding the ASOIAF universe. But I believe you tend to rely too much on fantasy to describe the non-canon parts of the world you've created. For sure, Fantasy with strange creatures and magic is part of the world George Martin created, but it's limitated to some very specific side areas of the world generaly out of reach for most of the humans (the lands of eternal winter, Mossovy, Ashaï, Sothoryos...) or have disapeared in the turmoils of history and it's wars (the face trees remaining on westeros, the ruins of Valyria, the remains of ancient civilisations in Old Town or in Lorath, etc...). It's a cool world you've described outside of George Martin's creation, but there is just way too many fantasy lands in it: almost all the new lands who describe are about fantasy creatures (lizard mens, winged man, flying Novii, Mermaids, deep one, which in martin's universe is pretty much always taken in account as "tales" rumored by drunken sailors or merchants trying to sell their junk while romancing what surronds them, and therefore are to be considered with caution on the veracity of their ture existence) or kingdoms ruled by magic and Dark arts (which in Martin's Universe was only restricted to some very specific places that little people of Westeros knows of such as Ashaï, or some very shadowy organization such as the Faceless mens, or the priests of R'llor or the tower of the Undiying in Qarth...) I don' t know if Martin will ever reveal what the rest of the world looks like (he probably wont because 1) he'll never have the time to do so and 2) Keeping the most parts of the world unknown and mysterious is what makes the beauty of his world, and brings us back deep into to wiewpoints of the people of the Medieval ages who had a very limited idea on how the world looked like)

That's a pretty attractive map. Judging from the comments, it's jogging people's imaginations. I've always loved how fantasy maps simply stop at a certain point without revealing the entirety of their world. Begs the brain to fill in patterns, etc. I remember reading LOTR as a kid and thinking I'd give anything to see more of what's South/East of Mordor. Tolkien eluded to it here and there and had some lore characters end up there or arrive from there, but the unknown quantities are important, too. Loving the attention to detail here.

In the opening credits, there’s a land mass on the other end of the sunset sea, parallel with both Essos and Westeros - yet no non-canonic maps show this. The only things that seem to come close is the Lands of always winter being connected between both Westeros and Essos; the Cursed Islands believed, by those of the Summerset Isles, to be home to the deep ones; Ulthos connected to Sothoryos; and the Islands in the East.

Honestly, all the weird tales about far off lands just sounds like nonsense. Could be that GRRM wrote that this is *what is known* about those lands in Westeros, but like in real history, lots of this could just be bs. Romans used to think Britain was a land with giants, monsters and mountains of gold before they took a look. The further you got on old maps, the less the mapmakers knew about it except for 'rumors' - aka this random merchant guy told me a good story about this land I can't visit right now after I paid him for it. Has he been there? He says he has so it must be true! I feel like this kind of thing is going on here as well. There's whole lands of demons, wyverns, flying men and mages and people in Westeros can't even believe in White Walkers? Sure there's a great distance, but ALL of these mystical peoples are solitary and don't want to explore? There has never ever been a merchant or exploration mission of the Demon Republic or the Lizard Land or the Harmonious Happy Harpy Harem that visited Westeros? If a civilization reached such a level of advancement (industrial era) only 150-200 years behind us, then they would rapidly expand and conquer, thus can't exist. They'd take Essos and Westeros by force as Europe did the Americans and much of Asia. Only places they wouldnt take are the less known continents as they seems more dangerous due to magic

Or perhaps they have Dark Forest esque chains of suspicion and think that westeros could have superior tech and believe that the people of westeros would wipe them out if they made contact, and are waiting till they get the technology to be able to wipe out westeros before alerting them before attempting anything.

@@tentathesane8032 europe didn't colonize the new world because its richer, Europe colonized it because of the primitive capitalism existing at that time, basically the larger your empire is the more tax you can squeeze out, that and the new world exploration fever and hunt for golden cities, ulthos would have to invade a country before knowing if its worth more or not, so I lean on the idea that although ulthos is advanced, it is at a stalemate with a local enemy or obstacle that is blocking them from world conquest

may I give u some feedback: some of those rivers on your non-canon-map looks not natural. Rivers always flows from the center of an continent to the shore. They do not split up on the way to the coast (like yours sometimes do).

If you feel enthralled by the mystery of this gigantic fantasy world that we only know 25% about then I tell you that maybe you shouldn't. A lot of this world is created in order to fill the map, add some context and more importantly add a sense of mystery to it. GRRM is very big on mystery when it comes to world building. In fact in one interview he talks about the Iceberg effect. What this means is that the writer presents the reader with a metaphorical "iceberg" and the reader thinks that a huge part of the "iceberg" is hidden beneath the sea while in fact not even the writer knows what is there as he didn't bother to imagine.
