@rayzimmermin5 ай бұрын
wow you clearly were not taught how to properly care for a cast iron pan right first off water is to never touch a cast iron pan for any reason second is never use oil its to thin only use lard third low heat dose nothing to help with seasoning and you are wasting your time the whole point in the season is to clog the pores in the metal and to do that you need the pores to open up and thy only open with heat but thy need a lot of heat to open so low heat dose nothing and the heat from a stove top is not good enough that's why the proper way to season a pan is you coat it in lard put it into your oven and bake it at 375 for 1 hour then let it cool down naturally over night in the oven do not open the oven for at least 12 hours reseason your pan once a year if you do this right you will never have anything stick to your pan so you will never need to scrape anything out and if for some reason something dose get stick to you pan because you seasoned it wrong the proper way to clean it is to put it in the oven then use the ovens self clean mode to burn everything on the pan to ash let it cool use a paper towel to clean out the ash then reseason your pan because the self clean mode just cooked it off
@m3galamaniac1445 ай бұрын
That's right, although everyone varies a little with the technique, it's rinse and scrape and then dry with a paper towel. wipe it with a thin layer of oil or bacon grease. (My dad used to wipe with a little salt and oil). Cast iron is porous, and the idea is it will absorb the oil. A properly seasoned cast iron pan has a non-stick layer that has been created naturally.

Yea, crowdfunding has dramatically changed the landscape of inter-social economics. From KZbin's Join feature to Patreon, to OF, crowdfunding is how a LARGE percentage of at home workers make their money, and honestly it works very well. Those with disposable income are able to help those without, at least until those without find themselves with a large amount and are then the ones to spend their own disposable income to help others. For instance when KZbinrs give money away to small streamers who then give it away to OF models, who then typically make the rich companies (Sephora, Amazon, etc...) richer.

You can wash cast iron with soap, you literally season it really well twice, then you make sure you dry after washing, by towel and then place on the stove top on low heat to finish drying, let cool, coat inside of pan with a thin layer of oil of choice. Best application is to put a a small amount of oil in the pan, spread with a paper towel. Nonstick, and good to go. Also adds iron to your diet
@terminaldeity5 ай бұрын
4:25 You absolutely do wash cast iron pans. The "seasoning" is just a thin layer of oil baked on to the pan to make it non-stick. You can scrub a cast iron pan raw, but after cleaning, you use a paper towel to add a little oil to the pan and then put it in the oven at high heat to bake it on. You can do this repeatedly and over time to further "season" it.

Hey you guys, few things hit the spot more than simple buttered noodles. But, with a little care, you can elevate them incredibly. And Leon could even make this! You start with good ingredients. Find some really good egg noodles, parpadalle (Italians are gonna kill me for that spelling) or other thick wide noodles. Then some butter, European or Kerrygold, but really good butter. Salt your water. I put around 4 tablespoons into a large pot and bring to a boil. After the noodles are done reserve about a cup of the pasta water before draining. Cube a stick of butter and put into the warm pot with some white pepper and toss your noodles back in. Now stir over and over and over, adding in about half the pasta water. You should see a white creaminess start to form. If you need to add more reserved water until you reach the texture you like.

I personally prefer to clean mine immediately after cooking, while it is still hot, and basically I just use hot water and coarse steel wool to scrub it down, then I heat it back up to evaporate all moisture and wipe it down with a thin layer of olive oil.

The coffee table and TV one explicitly says, "I'm not mobile." If you're bedridden, you may very well feel DESPERATELY in need of a coffee table (so you're not stretching painfully to get stuff from teh floor) and a TV (so you can have some entertainment, while you are stuck in bed or on the couch). Able-bodied people tend NOT to think about that. But as a disabled person, myself, as soon as I saw the "I'm not mobile," I thought of my late sister, when she was bedridden, and yeah. She NEEDED that side table, or else everything stayed in her LAP. And I mean EVERYTHING. Because she could not reach the floor, full stop. That's no way to live. Sadly, gone are the days when you can use an old TV with a wire clothes hanger. You need the USB and internet to get TV channels. Unless you actually have cable.

As someone who once got a bed base for FREE and as a recent graduate who couldn't afford any furniture... When it arrived I could instantly smell that it belonged to a smoker. My whole bedroom started to smell like that within an hour... I took it out into the lounge and put Bicarbonate powder all around it, left it for 24 hours. Dusted it off and put on a second coat that I left for 24 hours. 🙌 Smell was gone but I still washed it and then let it dry. It was ready to use and I've had it for 3 years now.

Cast Iron should never have water used in the cleaning process with 1 exception. Water causes it to rust. The pan itself slowly soaks up the items cooked essence (Seasoning). Lightly soiled - wipe with a towel/rag, oil and wipe. Medium soiled - add cornmeal or coarse sea salt (abrasive), wipe, oil, wipe. Heavy soiled - steel wool, add little bit of water, scrub, dry as fast as possible (usually by heating), cool, wipe, oil, wipe.

you wipe cast iron skillets with good quality paper towels. Then every now and then oil it and pop it in the oven for a while. wipe clean with paper towels and good to go.

the people who ad water when they clean, and then want you to reseason the pot every time you sue it? another comment literalyl says to use water TWICE, once, is exponentially more than enough, but TWICE

Hello, Lushes! I have a long-winded and educational comment regarding cast iron pans. Mrs. Lush is only half correct on this one, you definitely should wash your cast iron after every use. Using it shouldn't be where your initial 'season' layers come from. What is a season layer? SIMPLE! Season just means plastic, put simply. We apply oil to the pan, which contains molecules called monomers, these monomers combined into plates when heated up to a specific temperature, forming a smooth POLYmer (this is the mechanism behind all plastic) out of the MONOmers. When we get a new pan these days, it's already seasoned several times to ensure ease of use and maintenance for the consumer. Back in the frontier days, people were often left to do this step themselves. Another habit back in the way back, was not fully scrubbing your cast iron pans with soap, and this is the relevant part; BECAUSE SOAP USUALLY CONTAINED LYE. The lye is what people were avoiding scrubbing their cast iron pans with, because it would break down the plastic polymer layers into monomers, ruining your nicely done seasoned finish, and leaving you vulnerable to sticky, burnt messes. We don't have lye in soap anymore, generally speaking, so scrub away!

Reminds me of the days that I was a power-seller on eBay, and people just had the dumbest reasons for trying to knock the price down. Someone tried to convince me to accept an offer that was less than what *I* paid for the action figure I was selling, just so that they could afford to overnight it to someone else.

Third-hand smoking is a genuine concern, as the toxins left over from settled smoke in fabric can still affect people who use those items. Of course, it's not the same as first- or second-hand of course, but it does hold weight

Normally, no, you don't scrub cast iron. But you can. You can even remove a layer. You'll just have to re-season it over time.

Never use soap on cast iron. I clean mine with a cloth and hot water or sometimes salt, then I dry it on a burner and rub it down with oil. I'm the 3rd generation to use my cast iron.
