The Valerie story: It really baffles me how some people have no sense of self-preservation like OP. Valerie is a toxic and manipulative person yet OP thought it was a good idea to still speak to her or introduce her boyfriend to her. I can assure you that she will be back on reddit crying at how her boyfriend is cheating on her with Valerie and in as much as it will hurt, she would have partially contributed to it. OP needs to tell her boyfriend she is uncomfortable with his friendship with Valerie and she personally needs to cut her off completely...there's nothing worse than passively watching your own life going to sh*t.

Story 1: If he's gotten to the point he goes to bars everyday to drink and talk to girls. Being so utterly shameless and disrespectful to his wife after she told him she wasn't okay with what he's doing- wife needs to leave this guy yesterday. Not only is he disrespecting his marriage, I think he may already be checked out of it too. If he has to go every. Single. Day to escape from reality. Hope OP serves him divorce papers so he doesn't have to feel 'jailed' to anyone anymore.

To the chick in the first story, that's Japan baby. They work you to death and you find anyway you can to deal with that stress. Hostess clubs are as much a part of Japanese culture as the public baths. So, even if you do leave your husband, as long as you stay in Japan you'll just get more of the same with any other men you meet.

I recall hearing of a story years ago about three men who owned a bar together. And they were all party animals until two of them decided to clean up their act. But the third refused to stop. He was 45 years old and partying like it was 1999 every possible chance he could. And he even brought motorcycles indoors and did burnouts with them on the bar counters, causing serious damage and leaving divets in the spots where the tire burned rubber. They had to forcibly buy him out and kick him out of the business entirely. Some people can't stop. It's like a drug. It becomes their number one priority in life. And everything else is secondary. Even their families.

Story One: in Japanese culture, once married, the girl stays home to be a stay at home wife, with the boy not only being the "breadwinner" but the sole provider. As much as it's more or less expectation for the wife to do as she was, it's modern day, and times are changing. More women are beginning to get jobs as well, which should in theory bring the boy more into the home responsibilities as well. As such, getting a part time job might be a good thing in this situation. This modernizing step may also allow for justification in leaving the husband to drown in his puke, unassisted and alone. If he realizes he will no longer essentially be coddled and almost mothered, he may realize that laying in puke is most unpleasant, and will be forced to attempt the path of self restraint/reform. On another note, I assume that the fact that the couple would move to Japan would likely suggest Japanese lineage in one or both spouses...and as a Japanese, I am proud to say my parents would never let such pig like behaviour fly. It is most inelegant, and unbecoming of a married man, much less a father to boot. I hope the parents of one or both sides have the will to remember their days of parenting enough to harshly reprimand and set that boy straight!!!! Sorry for the article length comment. I regret to admit my pride is hurt hearing such behaviour..the husband acting as he did would be a stain upon my bloodline.

Also i seen japanese women are more fierce when it come to "cheating" and "affairs" but because they look for guys with more money instead of some random schmuck. WELP! unless they are inflatuate with a random shmuck too. This comes from the fact also women are expect to control the finances too. On other hand there is both cases where this doesn't happen and the man does it instead (is REALLY rare from what i heard but mostly happen with very older boomers). Honestly i hope people use their brain cell for once instead of make this entitled behaviour of "because i'm always right".

Cheating does not just happen when someone gets physically intimate with someone else! OP should do just what he says, stop jailing him ... end the relationship and take the kid away from this a-hole so he isn't limited by being in a family he clearly doesn't want! OP deserves so much more than this pathetic excuse for a person!

He is not cheating emotionally either. This is not cheating and there is nothing wrong with what he's doing. However those two definitely don't match well as it turns out and they should definitely divorce. Saying he is cheating when he isnt is invalidating his feelings on the matter. And that'sjust hypocritical.

the sleeping disorder story. NO he is not doing this on purpose! I know, I have the same problem. I have tried every single weird type of alarm there is and I still sleep past it. its not something you can control or being inconsiderate about. I have tried vibrating alarms, stand up to turn off alarms, misplaced alarms, math alarms to turn off, running away alarms, insanely loud alarms. the only alarm that kind of work is the "imitating sun alarm" but even that I sleep past for a couple of hours before I wake up. literally cant help it. I dont have a SO so I dont bother a person so the only thing he is a jerk about is not seeking treatment to find out what the hell it is. but he is not being a jerk for simply trying every type of alarm he can think of to wake him up. its hard

3rd story seems husband having much more problem of waking up from sleep so I would recommend him going bed earlier than he currently as earlier you fall asleep the earlier you naturally wake up while that be bit harder also I wouldn’t change his sleep schedule once he wake up early enough to do so as that could have misfortune of making him falling asleep later due body timer being screwed up due fact he stayed later than he body was use to.

Reason I suggest this is because I notice I sleep around 8 hours consistently with only time I slept for longer is when I woke up earlier than I meant to due some noise or being woke up by parents (which I live with as currently don’t have way getting to my job without a driver license which I bit to scared to get).

The story about the six yr relationship: I'm already wary about them having been in a relationship that long and him just proposing and now back pedaling because of a snappy period. While she does need to work on her own issues and how she responds to stress ... The fact he even admitted to the possibility of emotional cheating is a nope for me personally. I think, and I could be wrong, the idea of actually being tied to her now is probably rocking his noggin. I mean six yrs - committed and no permanent title. Now he hopes she's the one? Yeah, they need to go figure that out asap.

Story 1: The husband here is a big jerk and an even bigger drunk. Seriously, he's in need of AA or something along those lines. I dont know why the OP has put up with this for this long. I get the whole wanting to be loyal and supportive and all that, but this guy is way too over the top here with his partying. Someone like that should not be in any kind of relationship, much less a decade long marriage. Story 2: I doubt this relationship is going to last if nothing drastic happens.... especially if he think he'll "emotionally cheat" if things get worse. Story 3: Okay, if the husband is sleeping through those kinds of alarms, and isnt hungover or anything, then you seriously need to take him to a doctor, like yesterday. Hes either half deaf or has something seriously wrong with him internally. There are a number of very serious ailments and diseases that can cause this. While you can argue some entitlement here, i really think that the OP needs to drag her husband to a doctor. Story 4: Yeah... the OP is very foolish here. Valerie is extremely two-faced and she's clearly trying to steal Evan away and make the OP look bad. The OP should've never re-connected with Valerie for any reason, and this whole thing really should be enough for her to cut her out, and for good this time. You dont need drama like this. Story 5: Its one thing to be friendly with an ex, but to actively hide contact, and mutliple times it seems, isnt a good thing. If it was only one time, then i could say its a big over-reaction from the OP, but mutliple times? No. I think kicking him out and breaking up with him is justified here.

For a bit of context, I know that Japan has a similar work drinking culture to Korea. In Korea, you're expected to go to after work drinking because the higher ups view you being drunk as "dropping your mask" and being able to answer questions more truthfully such as if you like your job, what the company can do better, etc. They really push drinks on you to the point where some people will say they have an allergy to alcohol to avoid the drinks your higher ups push on you. It could be that he's trying his best to acclimate to the culture change but the woman isn't able to. It's a complete culture difference. If your higher ups choose that bar and you don't want to seem as if teamwork and team-bonding mean nothing to you, you go drinking.

From what I read when I originally read Story 1, i know Host/ess Clubs are a thing in Japan and they're completely fine although pretty pricey it ofc also depends on the sort of staff or customer dynamics... The big issues in regards to OP's husband is he would spend a good chunk of his family wages on drinks and attractive conversations with hostesses along with drinking to the point nausea is a big problem. Also OP never told him not to party or stuff just not at those specific types of bars.... She should drop him ASAP for her family and her own sake.

story 1: OPs hubby is FLIRTING with other women, isnt that technically still sort of cheating? i ask because if say one of the girls falls "in love" with hubby, she might quit that job, make a move on hubby & just utterly screw OPs life up!!! so, yeah, just asking is all :) edit isnt it called "Emotional cheating/abandoment"? hes technically being emotional with another woman rather than his wife /: poor OP & their kid, hope they leave & take him to the cleaners for making the kid sick /:

The objective of a hostess bar in japan is to make men feel special and convince them to spend money, it is common for men to hang out in those places, but to not misunderstand, the women there arent prostitutes or anything like that, but in regards of the husband, he is clearly not familiar with those bars, did let the "fun" get into his head and disrespected his wife and kid, if these parties are more important than his marriage then he doesnt deserve to be married
