The reason you’re not supposed to lean on the glass is because it takes very little tension to break the glass. One of my coworkers at a jewelry store leaned on the glass with 1 arm and broke it.

My daughter who’s the sweetest, most helpful and pleasant person came home in tears nearly every day from her retail sales job. Customers felt entitled to personally attack her and other workers when they were out of a product or wouldn’t take expired coupons, for example. It was aways people who demanded special treatment.

I had a customer get irate and she began to go off when I simply backed away from her when she walked right up on me to ask a question. I can't count how many times I've had to deal with rude customers for the dumbest of reasons. Retail sucks because of people.

My niece is a 22 year old mother of 2. She works at a gas station. When they do shift change they lock the door, with a sign that clearly reads why the door is locked. And I was there to pick her up and I saw people walk up to one door then the other door, then walk back and beat on the window, screaming calling her out her name, threaten to beat or kill her, use their vehicles too speed off or even do donuts around the ⛽. We live in Flint, Michigan and she worries more about irate, immature, adult customers then being robbed.🤔 The number 1 crime cities 4 years in a row and being robbed while working is two places behind, rude and racist customers. She is mixed with red hair. So she gets the bigotry from both black and white people. Please be nice to others, It could save a life. Mainly your own. Don't worry, I will get some on video.

I will NEVER understand this. Being asked not to lean on a glass showcase is very very common. It happens all the time. I’ve been told that myself when forgetting what I was doing at the time looking at an item. It would’ve never occurred to me to take offense. It’s their counter. How do I know whether damage has happened in the past. The rudeness of people in these times is just astonishing. It makes me angry that people look down on the folks in these jobs. I like some fast food places and I am grateful for the people who work there so I can get what I like. I always say please and thank you and I always tip at the drive thru...It doesn't hurt me to be pleasant. I tip even when they get my stuff wrong because all people make mistakes..including me so why would I yell? I doubt this behavior is new. Instead, it's like just more exposed than ever before. We've always had disgustingly entitled people in the world. Customer Service or service in general had generally sucked. Both due to the work and the "customers". The one good thing about the exposure is that, IMO, these videos help the abused get social retribution. Another side benefit is that many people have been able to reexamine their worth; it's pushing many to get out of industries that have clearly been helping to oppress the beleaguered, undercompensated employees. There really needs to be some kind of law to protect workers from tyrannical customers who either act this way to whoever or simply because they think service workers deserve to be treated like trash. I think harassing a service worker should be considered an offense punishable by a fine, maybe one night in jail (if they get threatening or physical?) and the behavior goes onto a legal record anyone can access and once it's on there, it's there for life. See how that behavior and consequences will affect their future. Maybe that will encourage change in their behavior.
