I used to work for child support and let me break it down for you all so you guys can get a better understanding. What this young man should have done was as soon as he got his children, he should have gone to the family courts to let them know that the children live with him and that he is NOW the custodial parent instead of the non-custodial parent. Explaining about the payment, the state credited him back the money from when he had possession of the children. The remainder arrears balance is to be paid to the state NOT the custodial parent to the state. Remember the mother said that the children’s medical is via the state in translation she is on public assistance. Once a custodial parent goes on public assistance the state pays the medical and TANF (this is the child support payment given by the state). So, the state automatically files for child support against the non-custodial parent whenever the custodial parent goes on public assistance. Now the arrears amount that he must pay back is NOT going to the custodial parent it is going to the STATE. Now I’m glad that he doesn’t have to pay child support and was granted primary custody of his son. I hope that he is able to get primary custody of his daughter so he can go file to have the mother pay child support. Hopefully after this Mr. Mims should go talk to a family lawyer to better understand his rights as a father. I really wish that people would take the time to explain to the fathers what their rights are. I would love to do a live with you to talk about child support so these fathers out here can have a better understanding of their rights.

I think most of us think that all of this is just BS and shouldn't be something we have to know because it shouldn't be this way lol. I do understand that we have to deal with it the way it is but it should be much more simple. In a lot of cases the court is skewed so heavily in the women's favor that she gets the benefit of the doubt while a man has to jump through hoops and provide evidence while the woman is taken at her word. But yes, since family court functions in a lopsided way, men should do everything they can to be knowledgeable and protect themselves. It's just silly that everything is so stacked against fathers though.

My parents divorced in '92. My dad faught tooth and nail for me and my siblings. Even with a criminal record to her name, including drug charges (weed) and hit-and-run it still came down to the judge asking us kids where we would like to go if we had a choice. Without question I said my father as did my siblings. The judge gave my father full legal custody. But the kicker is he still had to pay her child support. I never knew this until I was an adult. statistically, a single father gives your child over 3 times the chance at success than a single mother. The only time where the mother is better for the child than the father, is at less than 2 years old. I've had full custody of my son for 14 years. Mom got supervised visitation and after 6 months she returned him and said it takes too much time out of my day to come get him and bring him back. I said ok and never looked back!

She’s a very pleasant lady and so sweet, she raised me like her own and she really loved and respected my daddy. My daddy did her very dirty & she still there when he call and makes my sister go visit him and refuses to down talk him. She’s a medical professional so she doesn’t need to drag him through the courts. He gives her an envelope with an undisclosed amount of money every month through my sister and both of them have moved on. My momma is a bitter baby mom though. Women are a variety not a monolith 🤷🏾‍♀️

If the son was living with the father and the daughter living with the mother why was child support even initially granted? They would equally be caring for one child each so therefore child support was already split equally 50/50 because she should have been paying support for their son to the father!

Plus hes right about the school situation its really hard in that area to stay ahead without stability cause the schools there are really good and competitive, social life is also probably a nightmare. Guys, definitely hire a lawyer. This man should have pursued full custody, and that would have eliminated her child support claim. There are procedural details that can mess up your pockets if you fumble the details. The public attorney in the top right is representing the mother, while the father is unrepresented.

It's because the state takes a % cut of all the money that passes through the family court system. Part of those monies goes into a retirement fund for the judges, so they're literally financially incentivized to milk as much money as possible out of each case.
