I think remembering where you came from is important, but doing something just because it’s the way you’ve always done it isn’t necessary.

I don't understand the work hard to exhaustion and feeling good about it. My career directly benefits people's health up to saving lives. When I work hard at it, I feel tired; but certainly not good. It doesn't matter how much it pays or how many it helps, I am still just tired and frustrated. What exactly is supposed to fill your gas tank up when no amount of return, financial or spiritual, makes you feel like work is worth it?

You need a new job, if you get no satisfaction from working hard, either physically or mentally then you will either not preform to your potential or you will burn out

@Ap_twsh I've always rose to the top in my jobs, with only money as the motivation. I was specifically referring to people that work to exhaustion and say that they feel good. I only want x dollars to pay for my necessities and +y dollars to pay for my hobbies. Work and, more generally, other people only get in the way of those hobbies. At the end of the day, I do not like expending effort for anything other than fun. Even providing for my now adult children was always tedious and without internal satisfaction. Now, put a metal detector or fishing rod I my hand, with no schedule or expectation, and in complete solitude...then I am entirely engrossed and happy. Maybe I have just always hated being around other people. I remember fighting my kindergarten teachers to let me sit alone in the hall or outside. It took until later in first grade for me to give up and stay in the classroom. Interacting with people is tedious and entirely unrewarding.

I work hard every day at my office job, and usually feel like crap afterwards. In a past job, I helped organizations implement systems to prevent negative health outcomes, and felt the same way. One day of hard work outside learning landscaping, and I'm suddenly really exhausted and really fulfilled. I have no idea how or why. All I know is, the thing that fulfills me is not the thing that pays me right now.
