Australia has bulk billed/subsidised healthcare and medications for those who need it. For example I pay $7.70 for a year’s worth of insulin for my type 1 diabetes, and not hundreds like diabetics in the US have to. How many health ministers do you see being assassinated here? I'm from Canada and we spend far less on healthcare through taxes than Americans do out-of-pocket. And wait times are not extremely long. Because in my country, yoga instructors visit prisoners, religious volunteers of the Catholic church, professionals of the humanitarian field, social workers, training lawyers, psychologists , all of them visit prisons. I looked for that at the start of this and didn't find a way to do this. The Petition the White House project was Obama's idea, requiring a specific number of citizen signatures to make it to the White House, and a greater number (100k, I believe) to get it on the desk of the President. When Trump took office, the petition platform went away. After all, when you're all-knowing, you don't care what the people want.

It's entirely optional, and no, funds raised would not be useful in that regard. While true that most prisoners lead productive, organized lives in prison - since there isn't much else to do - and turn to an imaginary god as many do in moments of desperation, there are some who reject that, and that is their right. Luigi has expressed a secular worldview, and no one needs religious crap shoved down their throats and corrupting their minds.

You realize the current fundraiser has been rejected by both his attorneys and family. They don't need or want the money. The campaign organizers indicated in this case the money will go toward defense of OTHER political prisoners. I doubt most donors read that not-so-fine print or would be so thrilled. The $171k+ will likely not go to him. There are already sites selling Luigi merch: stickers, cards, images, hats, shirts, but they are not doing this out of the kindness of their heart - because that does not exist. They are doing it to profit off the trend, only. Wake up, please!
