Tired of your multi ring drive trail? So get rid of it!
Check out the Box Four 8s Drive train and some killer components!
In this episode of the Entry Level Mountain Bike Upgrade Series I'll be replacing the entire drive train on the DiamondBack Over Drive. I'll be installing a solid Wolf Tooth Drop-Stop chain ring to replace those 2 rings up front on a RaceFace Affects crank. Those cranks are connected to the bike with a beautiful red bottom bracket provided by Wheels Manufacturing. As for the rest of the drive train, that's all from Box Components are look SICK! In our next video we install a PNW Dropper seat post so stay tuned! Let's jump into some mountain bike upgrades, learn about bike repair and do some well deserved mountain bike maintenance.

This 1x system has a great gearing range. The 42t low gear will offer you some killer climbing gears.
Because of this great gear range you can finally toss that front derailleur system. Now extra shifter on your bars and one simple clean ring on the cranks. Love it!
The included derailleur includes a clutch to keep constant tension on the chain eliminating chain slap and dropped chains. This clutch can help eliminate a chain guide.
Prime9 Technology is a counter-intuitive philosophy based on the “less is more” theory. It embraces tange without adding complexity. The outcome is fewer parts, reduced weight, and increased durability!

For anyone (like me) who thought of mixing box derailleur with shimano shifters, apparently you can't. Cable pull is different.

Thanks for the video. Did you not need a b-link to attach to the deraillieur hanger? Their own instructions imply its needed but you seem to run it just fine without
@rgmtb
@rgmtb 3 жыл бұрын
No I did not. Normally a b-link is only needed if you are running a rear mech that does not have a cage long enough for the big gear on the cassette. I'm running the complete kit so everything works fine 👍
@DorkyThorpy

@@rgmtb I'm not sure it to do with the length of the cage. Although I did try a short cage with a 11 - 42 cassette and a link, but not enough "chain capacity".

My rear chainring starting starting to hesitate in shifting what’s could be going on. What do I need to do fix it.
@mtbboy1993
@mtbboy1993 4 жыл бұрын
hesitate?, might be that it's worn, chain might be worn, chaining might be worn, or front derailleur needs to be adjusted, the chainring might be bent, if you struggle with cassette too, the cogs might be bent, and teeth might be twisted or bent, but if it's not too crazy you can fix that with a flat head screwdriver. if chainring is bent you might be able to bend it back using adjustable pliers. but really I recommend to use single chaining setup, direct mount like Gene used here, no spider to bend.
@alexjohnson668
@alexjohnson668 4 жыл бұрын
Johannes Nilsen I don’t use a derailleur on the front with my 1x. like it tries to shift then it goes back to the next gear.
@mtbboy1993
@mtbboy1993 4 жыл бұрын
@@alexjohnson668 do you mean it jumps between several gears, instead of shifting to one gear? if so do you mean the chain ring on the front or cassette? if it's chainring, then that's probably wire tention or limit screws need to be adjusted. also if you changed cranks with chain rings you miht need to readjust it cus the offset can be different.
@alexjohnson668
@alexjohnson668 4 жыл бұрын
It’s my rear cassette that giving me issues. I rode last night it seemed to do better.
@mtbboy1993
@mtbboy1993 4 жыл бұрын
@@alexjohnson668 it might be your hanger is bent and the frame is so flexible you are bending the hanger, so if hanger gets bent again it might have been bent for the better this time, or it can be the wire that shrunk slightly due to temperature change, this is common you might need to adjust it in the evening, cus it gets colder then it shrinks, and in the middle of the day it gets warmer so it expands, so you need too loosen it, but of course that's with big temp change. it might be the rear derailleur that has play, so if it is paly, you might shake the bike so much that it moves into a better position and then it shakes some more and it worse again, if there is a lot of play in the parerlogram, and this happens that's an symptom that means you need a new rear derailleur, unless it's one with bushings you can replace like on BOX One & Two for example.
