5:30 I think the only other person who has done this is Max Busser with MAD1 🤔.
@watchartsciКүн бұрын
Roubèn, the MAD is quite thick and displays the time from the side. The Grøne is quite different-but the concept of make an affordable watch with an important watchmaker is similar. Take care, Bill

The Strehler is a gorgeous watch. The blue deeply guilloched dial is really attractive. If I had a spare 20K francs lying around it would be high on my list.

There's a 1-year waiting period (production backlog) and a 2'000 CHF deposit- so you have a whole year to save up the remaining 18K, Chiller. Take care, Bill

The point you make about there often being relatively affordable references of some kind by top independent watchmakers is true. 1916 Company has a 43mm Armin Strom limited edition Gravity AWC with a $7900 ask for which they will take $7,000. I think the original retail of the limited edition was $20,000. It is a glorious piece. The piece has Arabic language numeric indices which is one reason it probably hasn’t sold but I know what this reference looks like with conventional Arabic (1,2,3…) numeric indices and the Arabic language numeric indices are aesthetically much more preferable IMO. It is a fantastic watch with an open works dial and an amazing abstract gold decorative piece on the works side. An amazing piece of horology at a relatively affordable price.

Keeping my fingers crossed Grönefeld/Grøne releases a affordable manufacture movement someday. A piece with a Dutch made movement around 4000 euro would be super interesting. Sadly i dont see them going down this road, especially nowadays.

HRM, that would be nice, and to get one you'd need to get up early before they sold out! (I'd be there first!) Take care, Bill

Outstanding Bill. This was really great content. Believe or not love the entry level Vacheron Constantin FiftySix three hander! Though no Geneva Seal or not an in-house movement; it’s well done ! I am thinking of getting one as a daily. Merry Christmas Bill & Bill Homies 🥃🏌🏽♂️

Bill these are nice picks , Interestingly that Andreas Strehler UA/SA-30 is the base movement for Vianney Halter VH-122 caliber , Gronefeld principia automatic caliber that you mentioned and now recently all Christiaan Van der Klaauw astronomical complications are powered by the same base caliber . But as you said none of these aforementioned watches come at around 20k usd or close to that price range so it is not in anyway cheap but in comparison it’s a steal for master watchmakers work .
@HRM.H2 күн бұрын
I didnt know van der klaauw now also uses this movement! I wonder if my local watchmaker can order parts for them, as he used to work for Christiaan v/d Klaauw
@watchartsci2 күн бұрын
Whoa, that's a solid caliber then with other top watchmakers using the UA/SA-30, Abns. I'm glad that CVDK is moving away from ETA-based entry level watches (like my Ceres was). Take care, Bill
@Abns922 күн бұрын
@HRM.H, @WatchArtSci actually CVDK started rolling the new movement from May itself and they were severely criticised for using the word new in house instead of new proprietary movement as it was misleading 😂.

Personally I'm an admirer of pure machine-made mass production and think Sellita/Citizen straight from the factory are the pinnacle of contemporary watchmaking. But hats off for these first two picks. They are a lot more interesting and better value than paying similar money for a Rolex, which is just another mass-produced product. I reckon that the Miyota 9000 series of movements made by Citizen are very impressive - 28,800vph, thinner and cheaper than the Swiss equivalent.

For a dummy (me ) could you explain what hertz means ? What does that mean functionality wise? Cheers in advance. And merry Christmas
@watchartsci10 сағат бұрын
@@Fred-rg5vw Think of a pendulum on a clock. It swings to the left (tick) and to the right (tock). Likewise, the balance wheel on a watch is essentially a round pendulum-if you look at a single arm on a balance wheel, you can think of it as a pendulum swinging one way (a semi-oscillation) and then the other-two semi-oscillations= 1 oscillation.(tick-tock). A watch's Hz (Hertz) is the number of oscillations per second. So 3Hz means the balance wheel makes 3 full oscillations every second.== tick-tock every 3 seconds. You will also see the term "frequency" which is the number of semi-oscilatios per hour. There are 3,600 second per hour, and a 3Hz watch makes 3 full oscillations per second so that would be 36000 x 6 (2 semi-oscillations per oscillation) equals a frequency of 21,600 so/hr. Your typical mechanical watch runs at 4Hz, and I prefer 3Hz or less-larger balance wheel (greater inertia=great stability), less wear and tear on the watch works, longer reserve.
