I'd love to see the previous homeowners' reaction to all the architectural detail you've added to the stair wall, the arches, and the beams. You have such an eye for those details. Most of us wouldn't think to make those changes, but they really do make the room to give it character.

I think Kinsley's picture is perfect as is ❤ It's an original the way the artist painted it. I couldn't imagine altering other famous paintings, they often represent the artist's collections at a certain time/stage in their painting. Imagine altering the brightness of Van Gogh's Sunflowers 🤔The blue tone is a pop of the unexpected in that beautiful grouping. It also plays off the sky tones in the landscapes and the hints of blue in the florals. The coloring may not match your current "theme" but it looks beautiful amongst the rest of your lovely art. What a treasure to have such a gifted artist in the family❤ The room is perfectly you!

If you painted the main living room (the room behind) in Behr’s Black Evergreen paint it would be the perfect backdrop to showcase those arches and brick floors. That living room would be a dark moody tv viewing room, the colour would bring the outdoors in and all the natural light you get would make the room feel as if you’re nestled under the canopy of trees.

I have always loved your style but you just rose to a whole new level of RESPECT with the trim work job on the stair wall. I have a similar stair and will immediately be doing the same treatment!!! You just elevated your whole house by making that front room shine. I started watching this front room decorating project half heartedly, I mean how could you out do yourself after the cottage??? MaCenna: “hold my beer” and don’t even get me started on the arches…damn girl, I did not see this transformation coming and you punched us all in the face with this last episode. Each piece was nice…..but your true talent of putting a bunch of “nice” things together to get and OUTSTANDING finished product really showed on this project. I can’t wait to see what you do to the rest of the house!

Your dog is so adorable. He wants SO badly to play...with everything! Such curiosity. He thinks you are talking to HIM. Have you ever considered getting him a playmate? Your archways came out fabulous! As did the stair trim. I would never have the patience (or ability) to do that. The gallery wall works really well because it is not squashed in a narrow stairway and can be seen from across the room. I liked the round art between the (beautiful) lamps. A break from all the squares and rectangles. The painting above the fireplace has a major compositional problem. Ask your mom. Happy Birthday!

The Zanzibar gem Zamioculcas can tolerate dark places. In Sweden we call it the closet flower because of that quality with the plant. It is poisonous but it will sit so high up at the fireplace that a dog or kid cant reach it.

protractor was a good idea. I would’ve just got some printer paper, made a template in each area, then cut from the template the pieces I needed for the trim, put the cut templates on back flat side of trim, & cut my trim.

It's not a tree but my ZZ plant is thriving in my north facing apartment all the way in the back of the room zero light. OMG and if you like dangly plants that grow fast propagate easily and look stunning highly recommend tradescantia zebrina! Mine has deep rich green leaves with almost silver stripes and rich burgundy to plum purple on the underside of the leaves.

I think the gallery wall at the bottom of the steps still needs a your big oval picture there, which means some of those paintings would have to be removed in that spot to make that happen, plus, that large oval painting would tie nicely into the two Archway openings. Another thought, your white couch in that front room, just overwhelms the room. Per a whitw loveseat instead, or a rounded white loveseat would be even better. Having said that, I keep coming back to a library lounge feel in that room with seating nestled more together in a corner, with a couple nice chairs off center, facing each other, or a little off center with each other, and a very small oval coffee table between them. I just good for thought, but I still think the couch in that room over powers the room and needs to be more like a love seat style. Just my thoughts.
