Chai! Nne mo 🙁... this video reminds me of my service year in Enugu. I served in government house at Independence layout during Sullivan time and I lived around Trans Ekulu along Abakpa Nike then moved to Loma Linda estate. I was offered an automatic employment by the governor but refused it because I got my Visa already to join my husband. Its a state I would love to spend the rest of my life in. I so much love Enugu state. Very peaceful and beautiful state. Shout out to all my people from Enugu 😘

Hi Flo Chinyere, I really enjoyed this nostalgia video, and most especially, your bubbly and entertaining commentary. A few comments: I have not been back to Nigeria since 1999--yep, that long. I was born in, and raised in Enugu, so this video brought back a lot of wonderful memories. I attended College of the Immaculate Conception (CIC) from 1967 to 1972--yes, I'm that old--and, indeed, we did think we were "very speshul." We looked down our noses at EVERYBODY. Foolish, yes, but we were young boys, so what do you expect? I left Nigeria in 1976 when the Naira was ARTIFICIALLY and officially worth more than the dollar--1 Naira : US$1.68. You are sort of right about that. However, the naira was being subsidized by oil money in a protected forex market IN NIGERIA. In other words, the Central Bank sold dollars to Nigerians at rates way cheaper than the international foreign exchange market. Outside of Nigeria, the naira was actually worth less than ten cents. The private school you pointed out toward the end ( May Blossom??) is not the first private school in Enugu. I attended one of the first--Santa Maria, which is near HRC. I don't know when Santa Maria was started, but I attended from 1960 to 1962, after which I left to go live in Lagos with my parents and siblings. Thank you for a wonderful video; I will watch all of your videos from now on. Okey.

Thank you Flo Chinyere for this sentimental journey. I lived and worked in Enugu over thirty years ago and can barely recognize what it has become. What the hell happened to Hotel Presidential? That used to be a state of the art international standard hotel in the early 1970s but now looks like an abandoned property. Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoy your filming. It has given me a strong feeling of nostalgia and an overwhelming desire to return and see the changes for myself. Keep up your excellent photo-journalism!

So sad how they allowed that Hotel Presidential to deteriorate to the point of no longer functioning. I used to go there to buy novels too, they had a bookshop in their lobby and when Prince International did not have what I wanted I would go there. And youngsters went to swim at their swimming pool. Chai o. The trademark Enugu red dust will not stop till everywhere is tarred. Once there are untarred areas, vehicles will continue to carry the red dust onto the tarred areas. It's a long road but one day we will get there.
@ikechukwuuzoma10793 жыл бұрын
@@FloChinyere u guys are right till those of us that were born and raised in that lovely city takes charge enugu will remain dusty unfortunately cos those previous and current so called governors and local government chairmen are still living in 18th century ideas with their crookade minds. The first thing any reasonable governor that has enugu at heart should do is to make sure all gutters are closed and everywhere is tarred aswell to start with in order to cut unneccessary deaths period and then tap water and more street lights to light up enugu de more and more factories that the youths may have well paid jobs and the rest and then educational system must be of a good standard that's the list enugu deserve just to mention but few.

Chinyere, I like your presentation. Keep up the GOOD work Nne !! Yes I lived in Onyiuke Street, New Layout Enugu for a bit with my Uncle ( My mother's Brother ). Then i moved to Uwani and lived with my Sister. I am familiar with all those Streets, from Zik's Avenue down to Achara lay out. Lobito Boutique at the junction of Kenyatta street and Bishop Anyogu street was a popular Store then to buy Shoes and Suits. I used to walk down to Awkunanaw Girls down down down Agbani Road, CHASING Girls hahahahahah............Nigerian Girls, they will DISRESPECT you. if you WANT RESPECT, Guys, do NOT chase Nigerian Girls. There are FEW that you can catch but BEFORE you find those Ones, you have RECEIVED a lot of DISRESPECT from other Girls................I am talking from experience ooooo. I have a QUESTION: Those Folks that attended Federal Government Colleges in general ( Federal Government College Enugu for example ), University Secondary School Enugu, Queens Secondary School Enugu, just these three, what ADVANTAGE or ADVANTAGES did they get after graduating from those Schools? Did or Do they perform well in the then WAEC Examination/WASC Examination? I mean did majority of them ( 80% of them ) obtain Grade 1 ( Division 1 ) result of those days? Did they perform a lot BETTER than others ( Folks that attended other High/Secondary Schools ) in then JAMB Examination for Nigerian Universities ? I did AUXILIARY Teaching at Nike Grammar School in 1982 and to tell you the TRUTH, then Class 4 Boys were having BIG problems with General Mathematics problems, Physics Analysis problems ( Nelkon Text Book problems, Abbot Text Book problems, Whitely Text Book problems ). Chemistry problems in Holderness and Lambert Text Book, Baja and Godman Text Book problems, Roy Robinson Text Book problems ). I attended Aguata High School in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area. Honestly they did and still do rigorous PROOFS in General Mathematics, SOLVE problems in Physics ( Mechanics, Heat, Light, Electricity, Waves and Sound ), Chemistry ( Organic Chemistry, Quantitative Analysis etc ) that over 60% of Aguata High School finished then with Grade 1 and MOST gain ADMISSION to Russian Medical Schools and Nigerian Medical schools. There were great Essay Writers and Speech Writers that made A3, A2 in English Examination ( WAEC Examination ). There are Folks from Ekwulobia, Isuofia, Ezinifite, Aguluezechukwu, Umunze, Amaokpala, Akpu Town, that can WRITE like the famed Authour "SMO Aka" . I am talking about Class 3 and Class 4 Boys that wrote like professional Journalists. Then talk about PROOFS in General Mathematics.......................In fact the ENTIRE Towns in Aguata Local Government Area have Folks that can do Mathematics and Science very well and that can WRITE Speech and English Essay. I know of one famed Soludo Guy from Isuofia Town. He attended, Uga Boys Secondary School Class of 1980. This Guy in Class 2 was writing like a professional Journalist already in his Speech and Essay writings.
@FloChinyere3 жыл бұрын
True. There are lots of kids that excelled from village schools. Some got the highest scores in JAMB those days and were on admissions first lists. While some kids from elite schools needed their parents' connections to gain admission. Good schools help but it's not all there is to it. Some kids from azuobodo schools went on to be great in life while some kids from elite schools were up to no good and vice versa. At the end of the day, kids don't have a choice in these things. 😄😄😄 Enugu girls are not wicked, just well brought up.
