I could remember those years as a child, the cost of travelling from New layout to my home town, Amechi Awkunanaw was just #50 or thereabout and people were laughing at us that our village was in town🤣🤣🤣. Now, Amechi Awkunanaw is marked and designated as Enugu Metropolis. Tenants are scattered everywhere there and houses are being given numbers. The cost of getting a land there is very high too. @@nnamaniebere2902 I love Enugu too. If not for state creation, I'm sure my parents (my Dad is late now though) would still be living in Enugu. I and my Dad finally left Enugu in 1995. So these memories were created from birth till over 25 years ago. My Mum did her auxiliary teaching in Akpugo so till today, she can speak your dialect very well. So well that Nnamani 😉, the caretaker for that area we said was farmland down my street gave her endless acres of land to farm as much as she wanted, calling her ohu nta m (my younger sister). 😂 She spoke the dialect so well the man thought she's from Amechi Awkunanaw. Thanks once again for showing us Enugu. Like you said: Enugu still remains the same. I left the city over 15 yrs ago but nothing has changed. It looks more dirty, busier and chaotic. Reason being the lack of urban planning and effective local councils in the face of population explosion. It needs a serious urban renewal and demolition of probably half of the city buildings. CIC Alumni here. 2005 set. You wanna know why CIC students have pride? Ask and I will tell you.
@FloChinyere3 жыл бұрын
I would say Enugu is well planned but condition messes up the city. For instance all those shacks of shops need to go. That is a menace in every Nigerian city but when the government demolishes them, that would be demolishing people's means of livelihood. It's due to lack of jobs, everybody is now a business man or woman. In those days when there were more jobs, you would hardly see these roadside shacks. Those shacks mess up the city. But these businesses are so minute they can't afford to pay for shops in houses so they resort to shacks. That's why I don't complain about them. Everything goes back to bad governance. 2005 set of yesterday? The CIC ego has been deflated by then. 😜
@okorojnr3 жыл бұрын
@@FloChinyere I agree with you about Enugu being well planned. You hit the nail on the head about the shacks beside the roads. They deface the city. And that is why we need more investment by our business people in retail supermarkets to provide jobs. Those roadside petty trading won't cut it. The politicians are to be blamed after all. CIC is still going strong. It felt Federal became popular in the early 2000 but not any more. Right now, CIC is strictly managed by Catholic mission and is solely a boarding school. The Alumni association has currently spent up to #1 billion upgrading the school facilities. It is back to #1 and the pride continues... haha.

Aww such a cute story about your granddad. Wow! I'm sure it feels good to have his name etched in the sands of time for his contributions in the area. Flo, you took me down memory lane. Right in front of our house that was gutted by fire in 1994 (adjacent to the road that went to Idaw River; opposite Chief Ekwueme street). I lived on Affa street, Chief Ekwueme street, Agbani Road, Real Estate, etc. I studied at Wesley NS, Agbani Road PS, Zik Avenue PS, Uwani SS, before jetting off to Unizik. I have seen all these places in your video. And it takes on more meaning to me now that my dad has gone to heaven. Thank you. Plus I have been on that bridge with my dad on our way to the library (there used to be both the state and central in those days). I was so scared I made him promise me he would never cross it on his own again!
@FloChinyere3 жыл бұрын
Wow! You sure lived the Enugu life. Aww sorry about the fire, scary something! In Part 3 we drove into that road and connected Achina Street. Wait for it. That bridge is so scary. Then to add salt to injury, those that have mastered the bridge would be laughing at you. 😂😂😂

@@FloChinyere Exactly🤣🤣🤣. I am waiting for the video via Achina. I used to visit a friend at number 56. After the fire, I then to Umuchu street (off Achina) where I lived until I relocated to Aba. That road to Idaw River was the road many families walked their families on the night of 16 Jan 1994, as fire raged thru our homes. It got thru a restaurant building, our own building, an engineering workshop, and was only stopped before it could get into the big one: a massive cooking/industrial gas depot!! We escaped miraculously, having been looking for the keys to unlock the metal barricades in an increasingly hot 'cage'. But we lost practically everything - including pins in the curtains😭. Where you lived, I also used to visit a lot. Infact, I saw a building that was being constructed then - now looking very dusty. My dad told me we would move there when it was completed. As a boy, I used to trek all the way from where we lived to view that house - just passing oon front of it. In my mind, I had already shared the rooms out, and kept an eye on my own room! Of course, we never lived there🙄. I also used to visit Abakpa Nike on holidays and stayed with relatives. Ugboghe, then they moved to Ugwuago. In your videos, I have also seen places I regularly visited. Thank you again. I have not seen Emene though😎. Long one, but that's how excited I am about these videos!

@@SilverFilmworks long gini? Like I said in this video, the KZbin comment space never fills up. Biko take extra sheet or did they not give you guys extra sheet at UniZik? 😂😂😂 Oh my days! The inferno must have been one scary night! That looking for keys in the case of emergency was why my Dad never allowed us to lock the so called protectors with keys. He got bent iron rods from a welder and those were what we used to cross ours such that in the case of an emergency, it would just be a matter of removing them and running away. We felt he wasn't taking crime seriously then but he told us that in the panic of an emergency, one would not find even a bunch of keys that is right in front of the person. Not to talk of in serious cases of armed robbery, na you go come open door by yourself so why bother? Chai! Thank God you all escaped back then. LOL @ sharing the rooms before the building was completed. Children are very imaginative for real. Thanks for the lovely comment. Me too 🥰 We used to live at real estates. Our Parish was Sacred heart and I was baptized there. That was also where my parents got married. I can remember their wedding picture vividly, posing at the very long step to the entrance of the church😘

I thought you were going to drive up to our house on Obianodo street; you might even know some of my sisters (Obinabo family). Once you passed Cinema on Zik's Ave., I thought I was going to see Sancta Maria, my old Primary school. We used to to get to school sometimes with C to C, Udoye or Omni bus. I do remember the scary rail bridge you talked about. I see you almost got to Tinker metal works in Coal Camp but you turned around because of the traffic. Thank you for that ride around town!

Our first plan was to pass through old park then front of UNTH but the traffic at that old park was worse than the one at Ogbete so we took the Ogbete route. That old park and its traffic since 19kpirigidim. 😂

Coincidentally we had a Dim family as neighbours then. And I see Dim as your surname is that a coincidence or what? That house used to be No. 66 when we were there but they renumbered the houses when more houses were built there. Like I said most of that area used to be bush so houses were given random numbers. But they had to renumber. Kosolu is my very good friend till this day. She will soon show here. 😂

I’m living vicariously through you. University PrimarY School and then Federal Government College Enugu alum here. And yes, I know that rail bridge; I’ve crossed it. I almost crapped my pants that day. I had no idea the bridge is levitated until I was halfway through it. I had gone to the post office on Zik Avenue and was trying to cut through towards Afia Ogbete.
@FloChinyere3 жыл бұрын
LOL the shortcut one forever regrets. At the middle of that bridge you would choose to walk 1000 km than be on that bridge at that very moment. I will like to pass it now that I'm an adult to see if it feels the same. 😂😂😂

All those buses have become extinct. We did not see a single one of them. That's why I like ndi ocha, they would have preserved those buses because they are part of Enugu history. Two more drive around videos coming so your school is in part 3. 😜
