You can literally see and feel how much effort, love and care went into the original title. It was a commercial product, yes, but it was driven by the will and lust to create. 2001 and we have leaves and newspapers being lifted by passing cars. It's that kind of detail that made these games feel like a real world and famous around the world. Sadly the new DEFECTIVE versions portray what the gaming industry has become nowadays - Lazy, cheap, all bling bling and shine but nothing to show for.

Couldn't have said it better myself. They weren't looking to create works of art back in the early 2000s but they took pride in the games they made, had to use art direction and atmosphere to make up for a lack of graphics and wanted to make games they enjoyed playing themselves as much as other people. Not only that Ubisoft's games are all about grinding and they keep on milking the title which was already dead like Assassin's creed and just look at Project CD red(Cyberpunk 2077). There is no good left nowadays, story games are slowly and gradually degrading and online games have taken over, I hate that this is happening but if the companies are going to become greedy this will eventually happen.

This just proves how good of a game development company Rockstar was. Rockstar gave grove street games their assets and everything and they still messed it up. I get that Rockstar get a lot of bad rep for making such stupid mistakes due to corporate decisions, but the blame shifting is misleading due to Take 2 Interactives being responsible for the control over the developers, not the developers themselves. GTA: Vice City is very easy to complete og and GTA3 and GTA: SanAndreas is very hard to finnished. GTA3 is extremely hard to finnish it took me almost a year to finnish that game. Vice City tooks 3 days and SanAndreas after 2 months. But we can hope that Rockstar Games will fix The Definitive Edition soon.

people who play rockstar games since they were kids knew that about rockstar 3 years after gta v came out, slowly the heart aka most of the devs and founders left over the years and well just watch take 2s E3 press conference and you will realize where the direction of the studio is going, only main reason why red dead redemption 2 was a success was because half the original crew on the first game worked on the second red dead redemption still you can feel the tone difference in red dead redemption 1 and red dead redemption 2. for example red dead redemption 1 was the opposite of red dead redemption 2 in every way, red dead redemption 1 had spaghetti western arcade style gameplay with the only realism being the ragdoll physics from the europia engine which to me is more realistic than the ragdoll physics in red dead redemption 2 when you shoot people. and even though the gameplay was wacky to fully extend the fun the story and stranger missions kept it on a realism level to let you know its a serious game for example there was racism in the game to show that in that time period it was a thing, rockstar was not glorying it but they were showing that it was part of the time like the professor near the end of the game you save from dutch and he talks about how savage the native american him and john work with and has ignorant assumptions about him even though they never met, and the stranger missions had a weird haunted feeling but nothing to far out like red dead redemption 2 thats also something else i preferred in 1 over 2 is the graphical design choices and of it all. for example everything is old and worn out and dusty and the bottom half of the map was more detailed than 2s map although i heard rumors that rockstar rushed the bottom part of the map because they were originally not going to add it and focus on the top part of the map which parts of the top map got cut out of the final game. in red dead redemption 2 it tries to go for a more unrealistic story but realistic gameplay that has more annoying factors of it than fun ones for example the horses in red dead redemption 2 cannot be spawned behind you at any time basically you have to dismiss it or you will just be stuck in the middle of nowhere that was not a problem in red dead redemption 1 because they were programmed to spawn behind your so the situation of being stranded would never happen and then theres needing to be horses to get weapons it may be realistic but its such a chore that could have been deleted out the game for better gameplay because i had instances where a posse attacks me online and alls i have is a varmint rifle and a shotgun and i need to get to my horse to get my sniper but every time i call it the players kill it because it spawns next to them so i cannot obtain my weapons and have to parley it would be a situation that could have been avoided if rockstar kept the old school formula then there is the horses getting scared of predators and bucking you off and yes i know its realistic horses in real life will do that but it ruins gameplay and makes the player more prone to getting killed by the animal because they have to get up from the fall off the horse and in red dead redemption 1 horses never got scared they just sat there and let the animals kill them which was far more better for the player but enough what the horses or this would be longer i also hate how in red dead redemption 2 alot of the weapon damage and accuracy has been nerfed because honestly i think they handled better in the first game with no bloom or cleaning or bullet sponge NPC. as for the story and stranger events its kind of weird because everything looks all new and fancy and weapons being customizable is a bit odd because in the first game you could not customize them pretty much everyone had the same looking weapons to show its a normal west world with the average guns that were used and alot of it dont make sense like how red dead redemption 2s universe has more rejection to racism which is hardly believable because in that timeline and even red dead redemption 1 they showed the reality of that time period and to see people punished for racism and looked down upon in 1902 is just weird and feels forced on from politics. im not saying people in the game should be slapped with whips and called names but to have arthur and the crew hate racism makes no sense because it would be the norm in that era and they handled it well without being rough in red dead redemption 1. i could go on and on but you get the point 2 of the games i like have the same name but at the same time are different from what they were trying to be and honestly im not hyped about gta 6 especially with how they handled these games, they just dont care about games anymore and i dont expect them to since half the original crew like dan houser and leslie benzie and lazlow jones left they been with the company for over 20 years and left in a 5 to 6 year span rapidly after gta 5 came out so i say this is a wounded company bleeding out fast at the moment.

All these well thought, small details gave us such an immersive experience. You can really tell that there was so much effort and work going into this game. It was made with love. On the other hand, we have this dead, soulless remaster and its pure purpose is to make money. It’s a disgrace to the fans and to the people who made the original games. Anyone who was a kid back then (I was 11) knows what a groundbreaking game this was when we moved from the 2D GTA2 to a 3D open world experience. It was such an epic era to be alive. It’s really sad how they treated this classic game, it deserves so much more love🙁

3:25 The dead leaves in The Defective Edition DO actually react with passing vehicles, AND the player, but the way it works is weird and looks ugly. There is a specific spot that has to be interacted with(I think somewhere in the center, maybe?), otherwise they will not react. When this specific spot has been touched by vehicles, the player, or when a helicopter is near-by, the ENTIRE GROUP of dead leaves sink down into the ground lmfao It is something that really irritates me. Any time there is more money, people become lazy and refuse to work for anything. They just want money handed to them for nothing. What's happening in the USA with the economy and the job shortages is clear evidence of it. Rockstar could've just hired or work together with some great ENB developers but instead they chose to be lazy and use the Unreal Engine instead of their own GTA V game engine.... Considering how many people are at the different divisions of Rockstar, this wouldn't have been a problem to be made in house with the graphics of Gta V and the engine too. Gta 3 and Vice City are small maps. San Andreas would have been the most challenging, but it still wouldn't have been very hard. Some other comparisons I found: -When he's about to get hit by car, he has evade animation (jump to the side) in OG but not in DE. -He can strafe and move backward in OG but not in DE. -When he breaks a window (like in internet cafe) by gunshot, the hole he caused before the window actually breaks is on the exact spot he shot in OG. But in DE, the hole is always on the center of the breaking window. -DE lacks of fogging that OG has.
