Tom Cavanagh's performance in Seasons 1-2 could never be equalled for pathos. So much deep trust and affection sacrificed to--what? The constant care for a comatose patient for 9 months, huge amounts spent on Barry's recovery, his patient attempts to improve the lives of the 3 people he values most, his dream of having his egregious violent errors erased by Barry...all for nothing. Thawne's life is all sacrifice. As he says to Nora, "Have I not given you everything?" He never says "no"--even to Barry. That little smile at the end, too, after he's been raving about being irreplaceable--heartbreaking. Grief destroys some people.
