He literally devoted his life to defeating the flash. As he says to Eddie, all the Thawnes were remarkable in every way, but Eddie himself. So, Eobard could also have had a prosperous life, as we all know he has the mind for it but he chooses instead to waste his to make another man's life suck. He could never kill Barry as much as he could chop of his own limb, so he had to live his entire life just ruining Barry's. It's like Einstein devoting his entire life to destroying someone else's, instead of lifting mankind closer to the future... So he is the most dedicated person in the entire SHOW.

There isn't very many Villains that have the Level of Intellect and Dedication that Thawn / The Reverse Flash has had to take Barry Allen out at every turn. But when it comes right down to it. To me it seems like He could never kill Barry it seems as if he needs Barry / The Flash for somthing in the Future & Barry needs him too just as much as Thawn..??.. No one can deny it Thawne made mistakes. But behind that evil revenge he so desperately wanted was a broken mind and heart of a man who wanted to be a hero and no one exepted him. He was denied. We all have felt like that. But imagine dying and coming back and all someone wants to do to you is kill you for your past actions. I know this is just a show but this hits home.

I just want to add a very interesting point to this debate: Barry always had friends and family all around him to put him back together when he was broken. Always praising him and telling him he could do better Joe and Iris specially,were crucial to making sure Barry always stood strong as the pillar of hope he's supposed to be. Thawne had no one. Nothing. Only people telling him what he did wrong. Savitar showed us that Barry would turn out the same way if treated like Thawne was.

Not sure why I got recommended this but I’m glad that I did. One of best music video tributes ever. Thawne is the best antagonist and Tom is the best actor. The other guy does a great Thawne too but Toms my man. He was carrying the show on his shoulders after its stories went down hill. When he left that was it for me. Now I only watch the episodes that he guest stars in. Poor Thawne. He just wanted to be a hero and be loved. Everyone rejected him. Same with poor Savitar. Both are just sad broken souls who just wanted to be accepted. My heart broke for him when Barry took his speed. Am I the only one who thinks Barry should have just let him go home in Season 1?

@@InfinitePublics I've read that in the comics how this arc ended was with Thawne's memory being wiped and Barry bringing him back to where he belonged in history where he went on to have a good future. For sure would be better than what CW's been doing. Love seeing Tom (he was my favorite cast member) play Thawne but the arc I think has been played out.

Too bad that Barry and Thawne's final battle ended like it did in the Season 8 Finale. It had potential to be something really powerful, but its best part didn't last long. I think their best "battle" was the race in Armageddon, considering the Earth was being destroyed because of their speed alone, while they were only destroying Central City when they gained GOD powers. Armageddon felt like an endgame for the Reverse Flash, and he definetily deserved being locked up with no powers and forgotten more than being erased from existence.
