I do not think they stopped the tours to the DMZ buildings due to the American soldier running into North Korea, I was told they closed tours ever since the pandemic and the tours were never giving the green light to return. I was in Seoul last year and was told that was the case.

That was probably the case at the time but they reopened that area until this incident happened. But we’ve just learned that the JSA has reopened but only for specific tours

It's a shame you couldn't have visited the Military Armistice Commission building. We did that in August 2009..it was very interesting! The building sits right on the border, so we could be in North Korea standing in one side of the building.

We were gutted when we could go there but all in all still a great trip! And it gives us more reason to return at some point in the future 😅

As for that unauthorized border crossing incident, he was actually a US soldier who was supposed to be back in the US to face additionally disciplinary actions after committing offenses in South Korea. He dashed between the buildings for the purpose of evading US military custody. Perhaps the most confusing part about of it is how he was allowed to be on that tour to begin with when he was clearly not supposed to be allowed in. He was supposed to be flagged as a problem and thus prevented from joining the tour. The incident is why the general public JSA tours are suspended as of right now (June 2024). Fun fact: I will add that the buildings where you can cross the border as long as you do not leave through the opposite side of which you entered from is the #1 item on my bucket list and has been for 14 years now. I do hope they reopen the tours soon this year.

It is very confusing but unfortunately we grew up talking in miles so it’s hard to make the change in our heads

You can see North Korea with your OWN EYES? Well normally I use some body else's eyes or sometimes I see North Korea with my foot. Surely what you meant to say was "You can see North Korea". your own and eyes is a tautology.

"De-militarised Zone" is the stupidest name for one of the most militarised zones in the world!
@l.stapey24903 ай бұрын
The space in the middle is demilitarized. The boarders of that middle part are heavily militarized. The exception is at the small area called the JSA (the blue buildings) in the middle of the DMZ where they are face to face.
