It sounds like the advantages of the Eotech easily outweigh the limited battery life. Also, love me some Rock Raiders!

Red dot vs Eotech... apples vs oranges.... they may appear similar at first glance, but perform thier functions through different technologies. If it helps, think of red dots as general purpose vs the eotech as a cqb sight. The red dot can get you reduced cost, reduced weight, increased battery life, and smaller size. The Eotech brings no forward signature, largest field of view, least parallax, a fast acquisition reticle with ranging feature, and actually performs better with magnification. It's up to you to decide if the weight or battery life are deal breakers. Just understand that the two are not quite the same tool.
@FlatlanderGear2 жыл бұрын
It's an interesting argument to be made. The Holographic concept was likely intended to be a 'better' RDS with the hopes of better battery tech in the future as well as improvements to power consumption. The latter just never came into fruition so you still have the same tradeoffs with a good deal of performance benefits. In the military context, their battery changing schedule was robust enough where battery life didn't really matter.

@schizosaint7772 жыл бұрын
I don’t think there’s a POU outside of night vision that where the Eotech would be the best choice. They are certainly neat, but the weight and battery life disqualifies it for me personally.
@FlatlanderGear2 жыл бұрын
Weight for an RDS is a consideration but lots of military and civilian units still run Aimpoint PROs and heavier rigs. With battery life, battery changing schedule is probably the best regimen for someone who is on top of it. But if the sight needs to be put away and used at a moment's notice, I can see why a T2, a copy, or a Comp M4/M5 is more useful in terms of battery.
@schizosaint7772 жыл бұрын
@@FlatlanderGear that’s true, I guess they are great if you have infrastructure, I’m a schizo always larping for a infrastructural collapse, which is why I love prisms. I also hike with my rifle more then I shoot it, so I am extra sensitive about weight haha
@philliplopez15012 жыл бұрын
Of you play the CQB game then holographic sights become game changers in terms of field of view, speed, compatability with magnifier, compatability with night vision, etc. So yeah, if you are going on the offense then they are worth it.

Have you ever tried weird stuff like the meprolight with the augmented info ('foresight') and changable reticles? It's quite heavy though and of course its ugly. EDIT: And junk battery life.

I believe the 512 and 552 newer models don’t have thermal drift. The 558 and older model 512 and 552 are the one plagued by that. I believe, I may have heard wrong.

Those would be correct. It was more of a brand reputation thing. My 552 didn’t have any noticeable drift from 0 to 90F

Anyone using Eotech for shotguns, particularly for Turkey shotguns? I would like the feed back, thanks. I use red dots and beside the battery life, I lost interest in them, so either I go for Eotech , or something similar. But I needed some input before purchasing
@FlatlanderGear Жыл бұрын
An Eotech would be a mighty fine hunting red dot for your shotgun. It would have a unique and robust look.

Unless physics change, laser diodes will never, ever be as efficient as LEDs. Nothing is as good when it comes to night vision performance though!

Agreed, I think the 552 and NV capable models use an IR LED FOR THEIR NV settings. Saves a little bit on battery life at night.

Buying direct from their site is expensive but during their sales, the discount was quite deep. I got the 552 for nearly 30% off and the used market is even better. I’m seeing them go mid $400s now on some sites. And yes NV is superior on this. Even the lowest settings on the non-NV models are acceptable for NV.
