As I've said before, you guys are about as skilled and prepared as possible. And yet, Luck comes into it: that boat missing you by a meter! Poor Nelson on the night, and then he's all ok again with reassurance from Simon. Nice docking demonstration!

Good morning Dan! Thanks for another very positive comment! Yes when Ian shouted down Brace for Impact I have to say I wasn’t feeling that lucky at the time! However as always it just shows us what we and Blown Away are capable of! Thanks for watching

Wow that looked rather “character building”! Nowhere near that level but I got caught out in a thunderstorm a few years ago which I didn’t see coming. I had just picked up a private mooring for the night, single handed before the wind went from 5 knots to almost 50 with torrential rain. My issue was the mooring was of unknown integrity and there was a huge granite breakwater 50m downwind of me! Spent the night with my LJ on stood at the helm, engines running and wipers full chat!

Hi Mathew Thanks for watching and commenting , how does the old saying go - what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger 😀 Days and nights like those are few and far between thankfully, they change your perspective on anchoring in stronger winds when the gear you have doesn’t let you down. I’m sure you are the same as us in that using a strange mooring leaves me sleepless at night. Ian

I'd have internal lights on as well external lights to make us as visible as possible. Night from hell. I guess Simon won't be back in a hurry

Hi guys - thanks for watching and commenting - our internal lights are down lighter leds red or white but just to bright. My son is a JONAH we never got to video the storm in Jamaica when he was with us in the James Bond job but suffice to say it was pretty intense and we were half Walt around Jamaica at night in that little spirit yacht. I messaged him a day or so ago to see if he was coming over in the summer , I won’t repeat his reply on here lol. Trust you are safe and well for winter.

@@SVBlownAway fair enough. Currently my husband is working in Oregon until July. I'm in Ireland our youngest still in secondary school. Myself and our 3 boys flew over for Christmas and new year. We brought lads up mount Hood near where "the shining "was filmed to go snow tubing. I broke my collar bone so I'm home, off work, can't drive yet still in sling. Otherwise life is peachy. Trying to think of video ideas for the gap between February to July from when my summer sailing footage runs out & we get sailing again when John comes home. Hopefully break heals quickly so I can do some maintenance videos. Safe travels. Take care and God bless. Happy New year BTW

Hi Guys, great watching and thanks for sharing. 80 - 100 knots, wow! Certainly looked like a scary experience with that amount of wind at anchor, glad you didn't drag. Were there a lot of boats damaged? What I do when reversing is put a lot of power to get her moving backwards and then put her in to neutral to limit prop walk and let her glide. You probably already know this of course but I'm curious, does she still walk to the side when going backwards in neutral? Reversing looks challenging with a full keeled boat, hats off to you, I have it easy with a fin keeled boat. All the best, Chris

Hi Chris - thanks for subscribing and welcome on board sir - it was a very SCAREY experience we have seen similar I. Italy - see “storm of the century” video we did in la Spezia when rapallo marina was destroyed - different ball game on anchor no easy way off 😀 There were maybe ten boats on anchor and in the chaos id say eight of them dragged , the guy that hit us was anchor down and under full power to come back around into wind he nearly t boned us at speed - the boats I. The marina sustained damage , a couple of the boats at anchor went into the shallows and aground. Blown Away has prop wash out to port when tied to the dock so she pulls to starboard going astern - the keel being longer than the boat acts as a huge rudder when going backwards so the tiny rudder at the back gives little effect - all steering is done with bursts of power ahead and slowly slowly she does what you want - after twenty years of ownership she still slips me the occasional curve ball. Thanks for commenting. Ian

Glad it wasn't me coming in to Corfu. That's not the ideal sailing. Well done on the parking.

Arnt you glad your in a good heavy displacement boat & not a light cat , 5 to 1 is good ratio 10 to 1 is perfect . You got a radar ?

Hi Bill a wise old salt used to say anchor chain does no good in the locker 😃 we often sit 10/1 it seems and sometimes we remember why. We love our old heavy displacement boat , if you scroll though our videos you’ll see many other storms. Yes we do have radar it’s one of my favourite pieces of kit.

We have a 2.3kw lofrans Titan windlass which is twin gypsy and we have twin anchors one with 50 meters of chain a nd a second with 70 meters of chain - both anchors are manson boss from new Zealand and shipped to us in Italy - Ned who runs Manson has been a star as we bent a smaller one like a banana in Southern Spain and he replaced it for free even though it was in his words “to small for the boat” as we weigh 25 tons but only 44 ft on the waterline. On the day in question we weren’t forecast more than 25 knots from the south so we had one anchor down , our saving Grace is my paranoia and Maui Jim sunglasses - like x ray vision , we spent five minutes circling amd made sure we dropped on sand not weed and more paranoia we were at 50 meters of chain in 5 meters of water. As many old salts say “chain does no use in the locker”
