Bought a 1978 Ford F-150. Pretty stoked, but I think it might be having Carburetor issues. Thank you so much for this video. Now I finally know that it is 2150.

Cool you have a scout and a bronco. I wanted a bronco when younger but too expensive, Scouts in similar condition were half the price. Got to your channel as I now also own a galaxie with a 2100 carb

Yes both are really cool. I actually ended up selling both and then bought a 66 bronco which I just finished restoring. Galaxies are cool too. Nothing like a big body muscle car.

I could be wrong, but if you have black soot in the hot air choke, the tube is deteriorated inside the manifold. It sit inside the exhaust crossover inside the intake.

Are this carburetors compatible with a Jeep 6 cyl. 4.2L motor?
@MattsGarage9 ай бұрын
I’m not sure. It would probably require an adapter plate. Why would you do that though? A Holley two barrel is probably more serviceable.

Isnt the 2150 also superior when it comes to elevation ? They auto adjust for elevation. I know my 90 Grand Wagoneer that was the last car to use carbs.. has this. And its a 2150 on an amc 360 I have a 2100 on my 76 Jeep j10 (pickup truck) with a amc 360.. and im thinking of putting a 2150 on it. From a junkyard 88 Wagoneer. Reason is because this 2100 while rebuilt.. the prior owner gummed it up with old rusted gas.. and the slrings he out on it are kinds weird.. snd the plsstic tab on the choke is brolen.. it works though as it wrapped it in a wire. Tbh the wire is probly better than the plastic lol

Becareful , look in the old carburetor choke housing if it looks like exhaust was entering the choke housing , usually that means the choke stove in the exhaust manifold is ruptured, and it will ruining the choke housing and choke cap, hope this helps.

Before to make any questions, I really appreciate your time that you imbest to make this video. I have a question. I got a 78 ford thunderbird, I have been trying to fix it actually I have taken to 3 different mechanics and neither one have fixed, I buy it another carburador but still the same way when the engine have working around 15 minutes wants to shut off by self, I have to stay pushing the accelerator to keep the engine going plus lose to much power when I try it to drive. I hope someone can give me an answer, thank you very much

Matt, i installed a motorcraft 2150 because they said motorcraft 2100 and 2150 is interchangeable, i installed the 2150 and took it to an expect carb. man and said this is wrong carb. because it does not allow the trans to down shift into a lower gear. Whats your feed on this?
@MattsGarage3 жыл бұрын
hmmmm. Well, the carb is not what provides for a kick down of the transmission. It is a fitting on the throttle that your kickdown lever attaches to. As long as there is the correct hole for transfering the kickdown lever/cable to, I can't see why it would matter. But I am no expert on this so I am not sure.
@xlrationmarine7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Matt, I have the same thing going on right now with my AMC 304. Nice to know what that one port on top is for, NOTHING. Also did you cap the big one off that the hot air goes to on the back side of the choke? It's about 7/16 and threaded? My 2100 was capped off, not sure if I should cap it off in the 2150 or run a hose off the intake to it?? It's in Az, so we don't see sub zero temps to often. Thank you
@MattsGarage7 жыл бұрын
The age old answer: It depends. If you cap it off it basically means you don't have a heat activated choke. If you have already converted to manual choke then it doesn't really matter and you should cap it off. If you have not converted to a manual choke, then you need to find a way to get hot air into that threaded port. The best way to do that is the stock Choke stove which is basically a hard tubing line that connects to the the top side of the exhaust manifold. On the bottom side of the exhaust manifold there is a another hole that also get a hard line tube from there up to the bottom of the plate under the air cleaner. You will connect it to that nipple using a short section of vacuum tubing. If you have headers and don't have the provisions for the choke stove setup, one idea (I've never done this but I think it would work) is to run the tubing from the threaded connection, down around the closest header tube and back up to the nipple and connect it with tubing. That way the cold air from the air cleaner is going down to the header and at least getting warmed up a little and maybe that would activate the choke? It would not be nearly as hot as the stock choke stove setup. E-mail me at mattsgarageshow@gmail.com for more info and we can connect over the phone and talk through it.

Squawk22 V.V. Yes that’s the evap port. I’m not sure what you mean run it into vacuum because it is vacuum itself. I would run a generic charcoal canister to cut down fuel vapors but if you really don’t want any evap then plugging it is you best bet.

Thanks for the feedback. Same camera, maybe the lighting? I'm not sure. Now that you mentioned I'll try to pay more attention. Part of my problem is I'm filming and working so getting sharp focus is tough but when I can take the time to focus (like on the carbs) it comes out much sharper. I'll keep working on it. Need to get my audio dialed in too but trying to avoid spending big bucks on a lavalier microphone.

Nice work. I noticed you capped off the the choke port on the horn but didn't cap the choke itself. The black cap with the spring in it is under a vacuum, that is how it bring in the warm air to open the choke. Do you plan to add on an electric choke or run a makeshift hot air choke? Keep the videos coming, really enjoying them.
@MattsGarage8 жыл бұрын
Nathan, thanks for keeping up with the show. I have the parts I need to properly set up the choke hot air from the manifold. I'm hoping to pull the Bronco into the garage tonight so I can start working on it out of the elements since it's starting to rain daily (Seattle area). One thing I was wondering was if I connected the choke pull off vacuum tube into the correct vacuum port. I connected it to manifold vacuum at the throttle plate (low on the carb) but I'm thinking it should be connected to a vacuum source that only actuates under throttle. It's something I need to research.
@Nathan-dh5mq8 жыл бұрын
It looks right to me. My spare 2150 has no other vacuum ports on the back of it but that same one for the choke pull off. There were so many small variations of them. Just be careful with the lines going into the exhaust manifold for the choke they can be rusted up pretty bad.
@MattsGarage8 жыл бұрын
I've blown air through it but based on your warning I might bite the bullet and take it off. I was thinking about pulling the manifold and painting it anyway and that way I can really get in there to make sure it's clean.
@Nathan-dh5mq8 жыл бұрын
I can't give many tips on the manifolds, mine had headers on it when I bought it. I have to come up with a good looking way to run those lines on it. I'm personally not a fan of an electric choke.
@RealTruthChannel6 жыл бұрын
It wont work, the 2150 will suck air, as the base is larger, you will need to create a solid adaptor. I made one from a thick gasket, still didn't work properly on my 66 Falcon.
