Hi Saige the greatest concern for e-brake use is not whether it will engage but whether it will RELEASE when you want it to. If lack of use has allowed the linkage in the rear brakes to seize up and not be willing to back off then you will need a tow truck. If you are away from home ,this can be a pain. Where this is a "new to you " vehicle, the first thing that I would do is to jack up both rear wheels and check for proper release of the e-brakes when you lower the handle. If they are reluctant to release then remove both rear wheels and open up the brakes to check for free operation and lube the pivots as necessary. Also this will allow you to check for pad or lining thickness, rotor condition if rear disc brakes. After this preventative maintenance you will be much more informed of the condition of the rear brakes. This should be followed up by a complete front brake system check. Have a nice day. Tom in the Maritimes at the NB-NS border.

a better everyday car than a spitfire.... which is more of a fun hobby car in the summer. airbag light off when you bought it suggests to me the seller used a scanner to erase the code and turn off the light. there is such thing as pending codes - which means no light on dash, but the computer is monitoring the issue for a given time frame and if the issue persists during that time the light will go back on. when buying a used car it's important to check for pending codes sometimes sellers will even remove the bub for a warning light, so check that all lights light up on the first click of the key. looks like you checked online on the forums and tried the fixes ppl can do at home. i have a feeling it's most likely the module... but you never know. good luck with it. i bought my son a mini and it had some issues too. fixed now but sometimes you have to bite the bullet. don't lose interest in the spitfire....

Just because the wire insulation looks okay it doesn't mean the wire itself is okay. The wire strands could have broken internally. Normally this is easy to find but being in the airbag circuit, you don't want to apply a voltage in the wrong place from a meter.

Hi Saige the wiring under the seat needs repositioned to avoid future damage. Tom

I’m not sure that your ODB tester actually checked the airbag / SRS features… it said “No engine codes found”. The parking brake needs further investigation… why was it disconnected ? When you did connect and operate it the 2 rear cables were clearly not synchronised - the connecting bracket was all twisted so there is a mechanical difference between the left and right brakes and cables….

In most cases airbag related wiring is either colored yellow and/or its associated connectors are yellow. However there are exceptions!

Hi Saige logic would predict the most likely trouble spot in under seat wiring would be on the passenger side where the most passengers would enter the back seat so as not to inconvenience the driver when they are already seated in the car. Just saying. Tom.

Maybe you should look at the rear brakes before removing the niblets. Nothing is easy in this life
