Definitely want to add regen braking in some capacity though. Not sure it's worth doing the mod in the long run though, as all the extra weight really isn't nessisary, not just the lower part of the block, but the radiator and everything as well. I think it'd be worth finding a way to just keep the gearbox, and hook up the motor to the drive shaft directly.
@marsrover001 Жыл бұрын
Regen is just fancy engine braking. The controller just needs to know when to start regen. Probably tap the brake light switch and that's it. Unfortunately Regen isn't the magic range extending bullet people think it is. Over the entire battery charge and city driving you'll get around 3-5% extra charge. The bigger advantage is less brake pad wear. But given the funky setup where the whole car is powered through a belt here I would just eat the 3% due to reliability.

As Marsrover001 said, that sounds about 3-5% extra range.

Kuddos to you and your team, amazing concept and great enginuity, enjoyed watching your build. In my view depending on the vacuum pump for your break is a bit risky, instead using a compressor with a reservoir would have been ideal, but yeah it would increase the cost because of more parts and for the modifications to the breaking system to work on compressed air.

Really interesting, Ive looked into an Ev conversion a few times but its still a lot of money and a huge headache to do it properly so I like seeing what people do to make it easier. How much weight would you save if you did remove the motor?
@savyor1839 Жыл бұрын
I don’t know specifically for this engine, but would guess it weighs about 100-110kg in factory configuration - my 2.0l four cylinder is just over 150kg.

@@savyor1839 I estimated the same

great work!! Do you keep the motor running to power the AC and steering wheel even on idle? if yes then it's a waste of energy. Instead add a voltage converter to power the AC and stearing pump.

Smart work Mihir. Do you have to apply clutch while shifting the gears? Can we eliminate the clutch and shift the gears without throttling during gear shift?

Since the engine is still rotating the crank pulley, do you have the oil pump in operation to keep things lubricated? Also, it would be fairly straightforward to put a more powerful electric motor on there. 30 or 40 horsepower would make the car absolutely drivable (the first Citroen was only 9hp, but it was very small car).

Must say, it's brilliant and do update when you figure out that gear change. Keep going bro...

That's a great idea congrats ! Even if there is a huge amount of energy loss by running the gearbox and the crankshaft it save you so much time and effort to achieve a conversion ! Also it should turn so much more accessible to people looking for conversion by using your way of thinking !

This is incredible! I hope kits come out to help cars that have huge trunks and lid capacities but have bad engines. So so good

Excellent job Mihir, this is a very unique method of conversion to EV, kudos to you. You should make this venture a commercial business and talk to the government for some incentives to fasten the process. Wishing you very best!
