Great video... Here are a few other simple extras we added to our 38XO as well. Added a Bluetooth peel & stuck remote to the outdoor cockpit starboard side just over the bench by the window. Allows for easy volume control among other things of the stereo. Another item that we and others found out the hard way is the open slot where the window retracts down into is a place where items can fall down. When that happens you either need one of those long mechanical grab arms or in some cases have to remove the outside fridge to remove the item. What I ended up doing was creating a "drop-in" filler from Starboard. When we are entertaining/cooking and we have that window down, we simply drop the filler into the open slot. The result is more of a continuous surface as opposed to a gap.

AMPM is a great dealership. We bought our smaller 36 XO there and absolutely love it. A few other things you may want to consider over your winter storage months: 1) Rougue Wave Dual Band Wifi Roof mounted antenna run to a router and then hardwired to all three TV's (BOE Marine); 2) Permateak multi-colored weather teak for some of the deck areas; 3) Sionyx low-light camera system; 4) folding bycycles for your lazarette storage area.

Awesome detailed video. I am working on my wife about getting the 38 XO lol. I have been looking at the FXO and XO. would love to see the difference of the two in your next video if you can. The fact that they use the Yamaha 300's on that boat is fantastic. I have dual 300's on my sportsman and those engines are built proof.

Thanks so much for the support of watching the channel and your comments. Hummm.. forever vessel. Well that is a long time. One of the options that we are missing on this is really the washer and dryer. Having puppies on board and doing longer trips, having that is a necessity... so we will see. If this size works for us for the next 10 years we might move up to the 42 if they fix the back deck.

I have just subscribed to and started following your posts. EXCELLENT!! I am seriously looking at a 38XO and have a questions for you. The galley seems to be lacking good storage for long term (multiple week) cruising. For example where is the drawer for silverware, kitchen gadgets (can openers, cooking utensils, and the like), pots, pans, coffee maker etc.. Using the space behind the starboard settee would seem to invite considerable noise in a seaway. Perhaps in a future video you could address how you intend to set up your galley storage.

Hey Len! Thanks so much for watching the videos and subscribing, it means a lot to us. All great questions, and yes we will be answering those questions for everyone once we take delivery of the vessel and move onboard. My wife, having equipped vessels for the last 15 plus years has a lot of unique ideas as I am sure some in the audience will as well. Another large area for storage in the salon is where the table is, the port side sofa has storage under there as well..... Timing for the next couple of videos, the upgrade video should be out the first week of next month, toward the end of March will be the sea trial video following by the video you requested shortly thereafter. We will also be heading out a 1-2 month trip on the boat starting in late April and will be documenting that as well.

Len, we are going on our 5th season with our 38XO. Every summer we ( my wife and I, two teenage girls, and 70 pound dog) take a 10 day trip. We have always had plenty of room to carry all sorts of stuff including food. We typically have room to spare if you can believe that. We store silverware in containers under the sink. We store plates/extra cups behind the starboard side backrest as that is very easy access. We also store some plates in the cabinet above the counter (next to the microwave). There is also plenty of room under both the starboard and port side bench seats. We have had no issues with noise or things moving around. All items are stored in containers.

nicely laid out boat. Regal was ahead of their time with outboard cruisers. however, the Yamaha motors are way too loud, and prior regals were underpowered IMO. I hope they increase their craftsmanship and add Mercury options in the future for me to come back to the brand... nice video. What were your other alternative cruiser options?
@From100to26
@From100to26 7 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching the channel and your support. Reference the Yamahas being too loud, well the data does not support the fact that the Yamahas are louder than for example inboard power. When looking at the BoatTest.com data, at the 38XO Regal in comparison with the 41 Cruiser yacht with inboard diesel power, the Regal is actually 4-6 dB quieter than a inboard powered Cruiser doing a much slower speed... the Regal doing close to 40 and the Cruiser doing 20. I think it might have to do with the fact that you are fully inclosed and the engines are way, way, way back there. Now I agree that the Yamahas can been loud, our 26 we felt it very loud... but in this application, the 38XO is rather quite underpowered. Also talking to everyone who has owned a 38XO, no one has said they are under powered. After all you have almost 1000 hp on a 20,000 lb. boat.
@stimsingh9361

yamahas 425-450s outboards are much louder than mercury 600hp outboards (or 450r). Hence regals new 50sav is converting to mercury for the next gen of boats. having 4 outboard boats, the new mercs are much quieter. like the channel overall.. @@From100to26

@@stimsingh9361 Thanks again for the comments. The 50SAV actually has the option for quad 450's vs the 600hp Mercury. Also looking at the data on the 42XO (with 3 425's.. same as the 450's) vs the 38XO with the triple 300's, the 425's were only 2 db louder than the 300's.. both of which were quieter than a inboard diesel. I wonder if the design of the 38/42, because you have that rear cockpit area that is elevated bounces the sound aft and does not allow it to enter the cockpit... thoughts?

I would take a Volvo Penta Coastal series I/O or IPS any day over those honkin outboards ruining your entire access to the water. The idea that these outboards are automatically better just because they now have the horsepower to keep up doesn’t change the fact that the things are unsightly and in the way. Yay, I get a giant luggage compartment in the floor…at the expense of an ocean front terrace. And before someone flames me, the idea that you save endlessly on maintenance is simply a marketing tactic of the outboard purveyors….
@robertlazar1020
@robertlazar1020 7 ай бұрын
The 38 is offered with outboards or IO’s so have at it. I’ve had I/O’s before and would not go back. That is from personal experience over many boats. For that matter I never hear of anyone saying “I’m not happy with my outboards and going back to I/O’s on the next boat. In terms of a giant luggage compartment we have 2 bikes, 2 SUPs, 2 electric scooters, a dog ramp, beach chairs and boat supplies down there and still have some room. Not to mention the advantages of lifting the entire outboard out of the salt water.
@From100to26
@From100to26 7 ай бұрын
I would agree with Robert above... The reality is, anything larger than 40 feet, most of those manufactures if they don't offer outboards are moving in that direction... that is where the demand is going, and there is a reason for it from someone who has extensive experience with inboard diesel engines. Reference IPS... well everyone is entitled to their opinion.... BUT... looking at boats larger than 50 feet, those manufactures that went IPS, are all going back to straight shafts.. and there is a reason for that. For this smaller boat segment, try beaching a IPS boat... or running in shallow water.... or accidentally running aground. There are some benefits to IPS in terms of efficiency.. but those are far outweighed by the cost of Maitenance.
@chrisinsd4590
@chrisinsd4590 7 ай бұрын
@@From100to26 Of course you agree--you bought the outboards! And I totally get that my opinion would not be popular in this day and age, but still putting it out there. I guess it depends where you boat but beaching is not a thing west coast, but its a fair point re IPS. IPS offers a lot of ease of use benefits re docking that have nothing to do with "efficiency". Re the I/Os that everyone loves to hate these days, the new ones aren't the same ones people are familiar with on 10, 20, 30 year old boats. They're QUITE a bit better. And is their some more maintenance? Don't deny it. But it's not like it's constant and or unmanageable...that is highly overblown. I was at a Power Squadron meeting the other day and the leader declared that people with I/Os have to replace the outdrive every year....which is total nonsense. I personally think some more maintenance $ every few years is worth that water access any day. If I cared only about maintenance I surely wouldn't own a boat... I will admit I do not take multi week trips and when we're on the boat we want to commune w/the water. I hear you that this storage may be invaluable if you have a lot of junk to drag along and no storage--I might even be convinced, maybe :). My only point is I don't think it's an open and shut case that these outboards are just 1000% better just because they are available now--there are still cons to the setup which seem to get brushed off in favor of mechanical considerations, which is less important to me than my experience with the vessel with the fam. As far as people who switched and never went back, had a friend who had I/O boat and liked it, got outboard boat (and likes it too) but said he felt center of gravity/handling was much better on the I/O since the weight was inside center of the boat not hanging off the transom. Again, just a counterpoint, not disputing anyone who feels otherwise.
@From100to26
@From100to26 7 ай бұрын
@@chrisinsd4590 Well we had the option to build the boat with either outboard, inboard gas engines or inboard diesel... so Regal gives you all the options. For us it was the storage that was important, we carry off shore life jackets, a inflatable tender with a gas outboard (truekit inflatable tender), all stored, and a life raft... and when you considering being on the boat for 3-4 weeks just the dogfood takes up a lot of space without considering the wine 😆. But that said, you are correct, every application has its pluses and minuses, and it also depends on if the manufacture purpose built the boat with outboards or just slapped them on. I did run a boat that was a 23 foot that the manufacture did just that and I agree it was very top heavy. Now with the joystick docking and true independent steering of the Yamaha outboards, this has further diminished the case for IPS. But again, it depends on the actual application, where you boat and the size of the boat...

@@From100to26Yes, another good reason to buy a Regal--you pick the power (I also own a Regal BTW). You have a lovely boat and I'm sure you will be thrilled with it for years to come (and your detailed videos are great). But one more point for inboards--if you don't want that swim platform you can store your dink there... But more importantly, your wine storage comment alone has me completely rethinking my priorities here :)

What we are trying to do with the channel is just be honest... and take people though our experiences as we dive into this new for us segment. We have done the small stuff and the big stuff... so now in the medium stuff 😆. Reference taking delivery of the boat, it really comes down to your confidence in your dealership. AMPM Marine is simply the best dealership we have ever purchased something from (including cars). If you don't have that kind of confidence in your dealership, then I would recommend holding off closing until the major items are address. To this date, 99 percent of the items identified in the delivery video have already been addressed.
