It’s called a banjo bolt. It has two washers; one for each side. Like a brake system for a car. You should’ve provisioned it before you left.
@ShesTheSkipper2 жыл бұрын
Easier said than done. The list is endless and every system and every bolt cannot have a spare. You have to find the balance between what is practical and what will prevent you from ever actually leaving the marina. And experience is the best teacher. Though I can tell you now, I do not have any spare banjo bolts on my next boats (so maybe I'm a slow learner!)

Haha, how did I miss this comment - I have always said that (from Cally)! Unfortunately no man has been able to hold on to me yet! Currently shopping for my own boat to do it all again solo - stay tuned :)

That bolt is a Volvo party as is the washers. The bolt is called a banjo bolt. You can get new washers from an auto parts store but you have to bring the washers with you due to the washers being a Volvo part. You can use either copper or Aluminum. When cruising you should have a collection of washers on board. The washers seal the fuel system from leaks.

I was very stressed about losing either a bolt or a washer. So hard finding parts abroad! We would have been stranded! Wonder what the best type of engine is for universal parts in small countries!?

Hahaha John the Marine engineer was cringing while watching it! He thinks I should not use that video as any sort of resume to get a mechanic job!

Happy Birthday Callie from a new subscriber and the copper washers go on either side of what is called a "banjo" fitting.
@ShesTheSkipper5 жыл бұрын
Thank you Gilles for subscribing and the birthday wishes!! And that is good to know - trying to describe that fitting to the Volvo Penta dealers over the phone was a bit tricky so the vocabulary would have come in VERY handy!
@markbernier84345 жыл бұрын
@@ShesTheSkipper Also, the copper washers are intended to be SINGLE USE as they are deformed by compression when installing the banjo fitting. If it doesn't leak, lucky, good enough, if it does, get spares (plural) for the future.
@ShesTheSkipper5 жыл бұрын
Ahhhhh this a great tip! We haven't had any leaks but we will be getting a few other Volvo Penta spares in St Martin so will add it to the list!! Thanks Mark!

Thank you! Thanks was why John challenged me to do this, so at sea if he isn't available I am more familiar! And we love the name the "swedish iron heart" for this old engine!! Thanks for the comment Anders!
