Great video. Ouch! You should have gotten stitches in that finger. John's pretty good with a needle, no? A butterfly bandage at a minimum. Safe sailing.

It was actually not too deep. I reckon he could have done pretty good with a needle if stitches were needed though! Lucky I learned my lesson and haven't done it again (touch wood)!

Well your video channel "How Not To Sail a Boat" is very fitting for this sailing experience. I know, easy for me to say, but that passage offshore down to FL must have been a bear. I wouldn't have done it in those conditions. You are fortunate that a torn head sail is all the damage incurred.

Thanks for the comment James! We are fortunate, and that was us picking the best weather windows available as well. Much worse blew through while we waited at anchor...

@@ShesTheSkipper I sail off the GA, SC, & NE FL coast. That area is so shallow that the tides, weather, and Gulf Stream can really make for some rougher seas than the wind or weather might indicate. But to one of the points in your video, whether it's new or old sails, I go by the axiom "Reef early, reef often." You protect the boat, equipment, and crew that way and really give up little boat speed. There's another saying, "If you think you need to reef, then it's already too late."

Yes we were often surprised by the sea state! Always worse than forecast! And we had heard both of those sayings but as they say "you tell someone there is a billion stars in the sky and they take your word for it, but you tell them the paint on the wall is wet and they have to touch it to believe you"... Won't make those mistakes again!

Omg I laughed so hard when Cally brought the fish onboard and she screamed and jumped away from it so funny. I thought she was a tuff farm girl. 🤣

It was a long while and a lot of lost fish before I had a successful professional looking gaff. My most recent one. Fingers crossed I have figured it out and the next one goes well!!
