Question: Downwind in right traffic at night. Looking for the landing threshold abeam to start the descent. All the threshold lights face the approach. How do you see the threshold from the side?

5:44 I did not quite follow the reason of skipping a set of bars. Could someone explain a bit? Thanks!

I think he is saying the second set, on his diagram at the 1000' mark would be at the same place as the solid white blocks that are the touchdown aiming point. Obviously you can't paint the double white bars on top of the solid white rectangles that denote the touchdown aiming point. It just wouldn't be visible. Since the aiming point can vary, its not always at the 1000' mark therefore they might not skip them at all airport. Only when they are close enough to cause confusion.
