Hi. We use a normal hair dryer. However, if you watch our later videos we switched to using the boiling water method. Check out Episode 214 for an example. Put the globe in a waterproof plastic bag then stand that up in a bowl and pour hot water up to the top of the base. Normally the globe will be loose within 10 minutes. We have had some that took 30 minutes and 3 kettles of fresh boiling water at each 10 minutes, but with the small ones 10 minutes is normal as long as it was assembled with hot glue. Good luck.

Hi. We use clear Elmer's glue, however, any clear glue that will fully dissolve in water should work.

How do you stop the figurine detaching from the rubber gasket? The rubber changes shape a lot when pushed in. If I make a flat base for the figurine the glue will detach when pushed in as the rubber dimples, if I make a base to fit the dimple, the glue will detach when taken out cos the rubber will flatten, and you have to take it out to add the water.

Hi. We use Zap-A-Gap to glue the figurines on the stopper. It is strong and we have never had an issue. Gorilla Glue and Super Glue should work as well. When we glue the figurine onto a stopper that is not flat we push down gently on the figurine to push the stopper flat and we hold it like that until the glue sets. It doesn't always stay flat but it helps. We then install the stopper by pushing around the edge of the stopper and not putting pressure on the center of the stopper. These techniques have worked for us. Hopefully that answers your question.

We have never seen a snow globe with a USB port. We have come across many with switches for lights. We are careful with those not to get the electrical parts wet during repair.

Just broke a snow globe we got for Christmas. I want to repair it. What kind of syringe are you using?

We use a marinating syringe that we found at Bed, Bath, and beyond. You can also get them on Amazon. Make sure it is the one with only one hole at the tip as opposed to the marinating needles that also have holes on the side. We discuss that and all of the other tools and materials we use in Episode 3. However, we rarely use the syringe these days. The submersion methods works better and is easier. Hold the globe upside down under water then pull back on the rubber stopper to let the air out and replace it with water. We use this method in all of our more recent videos.

Hi! I just found your page! I have two globes i took apart to fix, but you definitely made it look way easier, haha. One of them, I think the stopper might be misshapen? I dont know if theres a way to fix it or if i should buy a new stopper. The second one is a music box one, and the rim of the glass dome cracked when i was removing the stopper!!! No idea what to do there. Any advice would be super appreciated. You guys are amazing

HI. A misshapen stopper cannot be fixed. You need to replace it. There are links in the video comments to some companies that sell snow globe parts. For some reason all of the companies we found sell the glass globes and matching stopper as a set. You can't buy them individually. So you have the option of purchasing a replacement globe and stopper from one of those companies or you can do what we do and find an old used inexpensive snow globe that is still in good shape and disassemble them for parts. Hi. Not sure if a sink stopper would work. If it fits tightly in the globe opening, won't shift and can be sealed with hot glue then it may work. 5% of the liquid is isopropyl alcohol. Water, Glue, and alcohol are the only ingredients. Good luck!

Hi. Thank you. I can't remember if we used the syringe in this video, however, our preferred method is now submerging the globe under water. It works much better for us. Hold the globe upside down under water and pull back on the stopper to let the air out. You will see us using this method in all of our more recent videos. Episode 201, the Harry Potter snow globe repair, is a good example. We do use the syringe if we feel that submerging the base under water may damage something but that doesn't happen often. Thanks for your tutorials. I have a solid wood base globe. I’ve soaked it in water just off boil for 20 minutes, replaced the boiling water 3 times. And it still won’t budge, any advice?

Hi. The problem with wood bases is that the wood is a poor conductor of heat. Since the base is wood we feel pretty confident that the globe was installed using hot glue. We had a globe that sat in boiling water for one hour and a half before it came loose. We almost gave up on it, but we were confident that it was assembled with hot glue and kept heating it until the glue finally melted. We always say to bring the hot water up to the top of the base and keep the globe out of the water, in this case it should be OK to bring the water slightly above the base to ensure that the heat is surrounding the glue. It is especially safe to do so if there is no water in the globe. However, to answer your question; the only way to get the globe out of the base is to heat the base until the hot glue melts. In this case it may take some time. You could also try heating the base with a hair dryer. Point the dryer where the base and globe meet. Turn the globe to evenly distribute the heat. Something like a lazy Susan or turntable could help. Good luck!

Is E6000 a decent glue to use for a snowglobe? I recently purchased a snowglobe where a part of the figure inside is broken. Going to attempt a repair based on your videos! Really hoping it works out for me!

We have never used E6000, however, our understanding is that it is similar to super glue except that it has a bit longer drying and cure time. We were using super glue and gorilla glue at first then a snow globe parts company recommended using Zap-A-Gap, especially when attaching the figurine to the stopper, however, we have globes that we repaired over the past two years using those products and so far no issues.

I have a larger snow globe that needs to be taken apart. About how long did it take you with the blow-dryer to get the glue loosened?

Hi. It normally takes 3 to 5 minutes if the globe was assembled using hot glue. If it wasn't it may take up to 10 minutes or not at all depending on what it was assembled with. This video is almost a year old. We primarily use boiling water to open solid base snow globe these days. It is quicker and easier. Place the snow globe in a container and fill with boiling water up to but not past the top of the base. We have not had any issues using this method but if you are concerned about water damage you can use plastic wrap or a plastic bag to protect the base so that it only gets the heat. We have many examples in the videos that we released in the past few months, especially the Halloween globes (Episodes 106 - 116) which show examples of globes that were assembled with hot glue and some that were not. Hi Snow Globe Rescue! Love your videos :). I have a question about underwater glue to attach the figurine to its rubber stopper. I’ve tried underwater LocTite and it’s failed me 3 times. I let the glue cure for 2 weeks and the figurine still separates. What do you use that is underwater proof? Hot glue? Liquid nails? Super Glue? I add a tablespoon of rubbing alcohol along with 3 TBSP of Elmer’s Glue and the rest with distilled water. Getting very frustrated with the figurine…Thoughts?

Hi. We are happy to hear that you enjoy the videos. We started out using Gorilla Glue and Super glue which worked. We have figurines that we glued back down over a year ago and are still fine. However, for almost a year now we have been using Zap-A-Gap which was recommended by a company that we purchased snow globe snow from. It works great and we have had no issues with it. We use it for everything now. You can find it on Amazon. I believe Episode 37 may be the first time we used it to attach a figurine, then it is the only thing we used going forward. You water, glue, and alcohol mix sounds fine. You may be interested in episode 32 where we compare the different options for the snow globe water. Good luck.
