this is awesome sauce two vids in one week. It cost more for docking with a bowsprit ? I thought you were charge by the waterline !??! vlog question: when people are on night watch and they are talking to the camera.. are the other crew members so tired they sleep through the mumbling?

QUESTION - Many videos earlier the Prism too aboard two guests for a few weeks of sailing, then one departed. Has the second guest become a permanent 3rd member of the crew?
@SailingVesselPrism8 жыл бұрын
+Bruce Malo the other crew members were Eric and Sean. Eric joined us only for Catalina, and Sean (Shannon's brother) stayed with us till La Paz.

Great Videos, enjoy them all. Two questions, from a total non-sailor: what are 'hand-lines' for? I assume those are the lines you show every now and then just trailing into the water? and why does your cutter seem to be so much better at ... I don't know the words to use here ... wind management? I watch S/V Delos and S/V La Vagabond as well, and when the wind drops to 4-5 knots, they turn on their engines, because otherwise they just sit. You guys seem to be able to stay within 1-2 knots of the apparent wind speed, or am I missing something? You'll talk about 5 knots of wind, and you'll be sailing along at 4 knots of speed... it just seems to me ( as a non-sailor ) that you eke out more speed from the wind than other types of hulls.
@SailingVesselPrism8 жыл бұрын
Answer to question one: our hand lines are fishing lines. They are about 60 feet long, half rope half heavy duty fishing line. You can land big fish easy with this set up and are easy to deploy and cost almost nothing to make. Answer to question two: Prism is not a fast boat, with a theoretical top speed of 7.2 knots the other boats you mentioned are faster on paper. The reason we can keep Prism moving at such low wind speeds is the lack of size. Our boat is quite smaller than Delos and Vagabond, thus everything on the boat is proportionally smaller thus making it easer to change sails with different winds. We also have many (5) easily changeable head sails that give us more flexibility than the roller furling systems that the other boats use which generally use the same sail all the time. Without getting too technical thats the best answer, The other boats are faster in 15knots+ of wind if sailed correctly because they have theoretical hull speeds of 8-10knots, top speed we have had Prism is 10.2 true. Cheers
@CGCampbellJr8 жыл бұрын
I had actually figured out the hand line thing in the next video or so. But thank you for the information about your boat. I just couldn't figure out how your boat is so ... different? ... than the other ones, at least as far as wind-handling. I get the differences in shape, though. Excellent boat and very well kept. Fair winds to you!

No. That is not a green flash.
@BruceInFlorida8 жыл бұрын
+Stephen Sidaras Having lived on the shores of SW Florida, on the Gulf of Mexico, I have to agree that was not a green flash. Don't feel bad, I have seen GOM sunsets and have only noticed a dozen or so, but maybe i just dont watch for them frequently enough. For the limited lures you have on board, I'd say your selection is superb, but the homemade lure with the nail polish and weighted head will probably make the best trolled lure of them all. RAW TUNA, Have you found any worms in that meat ? MERRY CHRISTMAS and safe journeys for the coming year. DONATION will start in Jan, I think you folks are the most honest and upfront in the use of me pension money to show these beautiful videos aboard your beautiful boat.

Hi!! I am Paul, and I would like a free catamaran! 36-50 feet. Long as it motors a bit. I am 250 miles from seattle. Heres the story.. I am 58 and had a nasty stroke 2 and a half years ago. It has taken 95% of all my memories away! and my right side of my body, which is slowly comming back. I dont drive and type with one finger, I can use my arms but healing of my right hand is slow. I love sanding and polishing any thing!! That would take some time to do a boat, I have done a few before! Please get a hold of me if you have anything I could have!! We could talk sometime!! I just wanna clean and polish things, it is sooo cool!! love you all, Paul
