The farmhouse gardens total nearly 4 acres and are in themselves, a full time job! Anna and Peter manage the best they can, and one of those harder jobs that they seem to leave and leave, is cutting back the Laurel hedges.
They choose a really hot day to cut back and reshape the hedges around the front of the farmhouse and on poolside - this time the hedges destroy both of their electric cutters!!

Peter, I hope you had a nice cold drink and rested under your veranda. Trimming hedges is difficult, 0:00 but I think you managed. I hope you show the finished hedge when you can. I love seeing you take things apart and working on them. ❤❤❤❤ love your blog, Peter.

Admiring your tenacity Peter and Anna. My tiny garden has an ivy covered archway which is now probably 12 feet high and is now too much for me to cope with owing to a health problem. In comparison absolutely nothing, but just as daunting for me. Hoping you can find the finances to get a heavy duty cutter to complete this huge task. Sending you both as always my very best wishes and kind regards. 🌹xx

I don't suppose a neighbour has a digger with what you need to clear that one area? glad you managed to fix what you have for now. Lovely to see you two fixing your garden it's pruning all the old growth is the hardest. Maybe have a student come in from a landscaping school or a few of them as part credit to their program do some supervised work for you. Sure you can fix anything Peter :)

Hi Peter and Anna…your laurel hedges would really benefit from a hard side prune early next Spring before birds nest, then determine the height. Laurel is brilliant as a wind break and is faithful as anything…don’t be frightened to hard prune …the new green shoots from late March soon give the protection.

Wow I’ve put a comment in 3 times and it always disappears. I was trying to tell you that there is an ASV (All service vehicle) with a head on it that can run through trees and brush so fast and turn it into mulch. You should see if you can find someone who has one who has one to wipe out that big job you have there. There is a guy I like watching I guess that head is mesmerizing to watch (Idigit4) is his channel. Hope you’re having beautiful weather like we are here In Indiana.

Laurel does make a beautiful hedge...it is a bit of a thug though...unless you pay it attention a few times a year. ....you know on top of EVERYTHING else you and Anna do around your home and garden👀🙈😁. Sending you both everything good and happy. ❤❤

Those laurel hedges can be quite a job. I had one and had to use the loppers because it was so thick. But once in shape they are a very noble hedge and will look brilliant

I sympathize about the work you and Anna have with your property. My property is much smaller but it is a lot of work! I decided recently to think of gardening as a ‘hobby” instead of a constant list of tasks to be done. With this change in thinking I have been able to be more positive about the garden and work on this hobby like others and just enjoy a few relaxing hours a day 😆❤

Brings back memories of a massively wide and neglected laurel hedge we inherited with a previous home. It required a multiyear rehab! Eventually, it became manageable but one couldn't ever skip a trimming.

Why we took one of our hedges down Peter. A lot of cutting and journeys to the dechetterie but well worth it. We thought that we don't want to be trimming that in later years. It wasn't a nice looking hedge anyhow. Nice video, always look forward to them

You need Goats to eat the border brush and heavy brambles, maybe a farmer has some goats they can lend you for a week, it is something people do, no kidding it's called Rent a Goat in France. As I have become older I find myself redesigning the garden to be more lawn-friendly than flower beds, it is easier to keep on top of it, so I feel your pain, it's another one of those challenges of getting older we keep adapting as we go on, but well done with the hedges, once the birds have nested and flown away, its always time and no amount of procrastination can change that lol. Lovely to see Miss Anna giving it her all bless her xx
