Yeah, this episode isn't Star Trek at its best - not *quite* to the level of "Spock's Brain"; but for some unfathomable reason, the decision is made to send not only the First Officer, but the CMO, AND the Chief Engineer on a simple run-of-the-mill quasar recon mission? And that Wheel dude...whatshisname....? *Ferris* ! was absolutely right - they *should* have gone straight to the New Paris colony with the vaccine - that quasar wouldn't be going anywhere. And I think you're right about that mist...Desilu probably ran afoul of the TV censors with that darn telegraph pole stuck in the guy's back - adding the mist in post saved them doing a costly reshoot.

Wish they had a still of what it looked like. When Spock pulls the spear and examines it, the point looks to be over a foot long with much of it stained with blood.😮

The insubordination in this episode has always bothered me. Spock is the First Officer. That means that he's the first officer under the Captain. His authority is not up for discussion. I'm surprised that the writers and producers of the show, who know about the chain of command, who probably had served in one of the endless wars since WWII, failed so cringingly in this episode.

You're right the insubordination really makes me shake my head. Poor writing for sure. I'd be passing out a few court marshals for sure.

Regarding the insubordination aspect of this episode, there is a novel written that follows on the character of Boma, who was involved in the majority of the insubordination, that he was in fact court martialed and kicked out of Starfleet and got involved in other adventures in the Federation. Can’t recall the title.

The 'enlargement' technology these primitive creatures use in their leather looking shields should really be researched by The Federation, could come in handy.😊😊😊😊

Great review! I recommend you guys use the original versions in your review, not the remastered versions where unknowing and uncaring 18 year olds redid the FX with with celphone technology.

They could only afford one monster outfit. So you only ever see one. So I believe that's how many are stalking the crew of the Galileo...one. This creature is just very good at fooling his enemies into thinking he has an Army. Also these giant spears are obviously being thrown by crew guys off screen. These guys couldn't spear Latimer. He got killed because the 'real' creatures can really throw these things.

Yes, inappropriate laughter at the end happens quite a bit. The Ultimate Computer Really? The entire crew of 430 aboard the USS Excalibur, dead. Over 50 dead on The Lexington? That episode needed a somber ending and Kirk's chuckling😯😯😯 WTF

This was one of the episodes that makes you think, "I'll bet it was never like this for the 1960s astronauts." I mean, imagine John Glenn or Gene Cernan ending up in a soup kitchen in the Bowery with a social worker in the '30s. Or fighting the Gorn. Or falling in love with Zarabeth on a freezing planet. Sorry, just can't see that.

So phasers are powered by some kind of 'gas'? When the value fails there's this loud hiss. And no one trips and runs out of the shuttle so this stuff is non-lethal?😮

Crawford was also Chronis The Time Merchant in said episode of Lost in Space. He was also the Mayor of San Francisco in The Enforcer(aka Dirty Harry 3) playing a similar weasel. Its funny how in the 60's these guest stars were bouncing from show to show. Star Trek, Lost in Space, I Spy, Mission Impossible, Batman, The Man from Uncle and comedys like I dream of Jeannie, Bewitched,Get Smart and so many others. This probably wasn't that noticed First Run but when all these shows went into syndication in the 70s when I started watching I kept seeing the same actors over and over. Also these 'guest' actors were all over those camp spy movies of the 60s like Matt Helm(Dean Martin) and the Flint movies with James Colburn(?)😊😊 Which I think influenced Austin Powers just as much as James Bond.😊
