Ep 175: Finance 101 with the Financial Enabler, Marine EOD Tech Jaime Andres!

If your finances aren't in order, you will not be able to focus on the pipeline. Well, we are here for full spectrum support- in the team room this week, we sit down with Jaime Andres, better known as the Financial Enabler on IG!
An EOD in the USMC by trade, he's taken it upon himself to help out young service members to understand their finances- everything from TSP to investments, to how you should invest your bonus when you get one. Spoiler alert- it's not a 500HP Hellcat.

Finance...so important to be mindful of this. As an NCO, I had a soldier whos creditors kept calling the Battalion. I had to sit with him to ensure he was attending and engaging in budgeting and basic check book use class the base put on. His wife kept demanding hewelry. Hes was an E-3 going on Dishonorable Discharge. He made it through, but just another aspect of getting home life squared away to be deployable. Can not imagine that this is an issue for those in AFSOC? Also, you probably know this, or intended it(?), but you on your cover Jaimes pic is reversed. Uniform backwards.

Some points I’d add: 8th wonder of world - compounding interest Blended/Legacy- similiar to a 401k once you’re vested you keep that match and your contribution regardless if do 20 or get out. Roth vs traditional paying taxes upfront vs post ( what’s your tax bracket now vs at retirement) Yes leveraging debt, how much risk are you willing to assume ? Can you cover mortgages if you’re property is vacant for 6+ months (eg: another Covid 19 law hits where can’t kick out a non paying tenant) maintenance /roof/windows etc are thousands of dollars, buying 0 down etc is cool but you better have some savings. 1031 exchange - tax free rolling of real estate gains Retail items are only worth what someone is willing to pay. NOT AN INVESTMENT. You can enjoy a Rolex and make money on it or overpay, if you buy it don’t assume making money on it.

Have not hit play yet I can already hear the endless jokes. When I was in I spent much time downrange with Marines from First and Second Force Recon as a CCT. Always loved the Marines, definitely loved the Corpsman since I'm still breathing thanks to him (Thx BoDoc).
