Hi Ian, good to see a new (old) video and good to have you back in the country. So this thing still needs some electrical power to work? Btw, water vapour is a byproduct of any hydrocarbon combustion regardless of the actual fuel. The reason you don’t get moisture the way you would get with a simple gas stove is because vapour is released through the flue (along with nasty things like sulphur dioxide, due to diesel sulphur content, which reacts with the water vapour to produce sulphuric acid, the thing that corrodes the flue in due time).

its good to be back - the only power consumption is the low pressure fuel pump which clicks every 5 secs and draws 0.5 amps per hour .good info to know thanks

Happy New year Ian , interesting vid about Your heater, I know what you mean about the other heaters mines chugging away keeping my truck toasty , and yes they do tend to throw a hissy fit ever now and then, plus you have to run them up through the summer months,

I evaluated Dickinson and others 15 years ago. Landed on Eberspächer D4. I had no place for a chimny. No place to fit the stove. And I want heat healing under sail. My boat is a steel cutterrigged sail boat, 42 feet. At 15 deg C below freezing on the outside, I can easely have +22 deg C all over on the inside. With relative humidity dropping below 40 %. Hot air is blowing in through several vents. One of which is located in a 'drying locker' for wet clothes and boots. Maintenance so far is zero. Nothing, press the button and Eber starts. Maintenance planned is replacing the fan and exhaust tube. Price in region of GBP 250. About 3 hrs. of work. Not dramatic after 15 years of use. Just to point out, there are functional alternatives.

All my bulkheads are steel , for me to cut through fire proof bulkheads to put a air duct would be a huge task. The problem with forced air heaters is not in the early years but later when parts are not available and the skills to replace parts aren’t avaialable in many countries. I’m pleased I fitted a dickinsons and I’m glad your heater works for you. Fair winds my friends

@@SVBlownAway My bulkheads/hull are between 4- and 6 mm steel. No problem cutting 4 inch hole with battery drill and circular saw. After 15 years all parts available, or upgraded parts. Shall be interesting to follow you and see more of your boat. I splashed my boat i 2000, so it is only 23 years old. Made for icy conditions in Norway.

@@svhulda6157 Blown Away was built in the uk , hull welded in 1972 and launched in 1978 originally fitted with an exhaust heater and an eberspaccher which was enormous. I have cut holes for a new exhaust outlet when I re engined but it was going from 78mm to 90mm and was a nightmare as not able to use a hole saw. I have liveaboard for over twenty years but I was in the merchant navy on research ships and travelled the world inc an arctic winter for a Norwegian company. We have no room for a Dickinson style of heater so we are glad to have an Eberspacher Airtronic D4 and I have to say it gives us very little bother. It needs servicing once or twice a year but it is very easy to do - admittedly not as easy as yours but no real challenge. The trickiest bit is getting the atomizer screen out because it tends to braze itself to the aluminium housing but pointy-nose plier usually work 😄

What a simple design, k.i.s.s. keep it simple stupid. I love it. What is the fuel consumption (roughly)? When I get a boat I will install one, because I'd need one here. It's as we speak -6ºC outside.

I believe at max power its around 2.5 litres per 24hours - ive never had to run it above half power even at neg 8 degrees it was enough to heat the whole boat
