Ep. 191 3/4 BONUS: 8 WAYS TO SAY "I LOVE YOU" WITH MOSAIC ART! PART 4
This is the fourth of eight videos showing different Valentine's Day mosaic ideas!
Welcome to my studio! Part 4 will show how to make a mosaic heart using leftover smalti.
0:13 I have some thinset leftover from a repair on a different project. I mixed up WAY too much, so now I'm going to use it.
0:50 I'm using a Pebeo poured paint cradleboard panel. I pulled out a bag of scrap smalti (yes I save every little bit.
1:21 I start by sketching out a heart with pencil. Then I pipe some thinset on.
1:25 I'm going for lots of texture, so I angle the first pieces around the top edge. Then I add pieces at different angles. It seems to work best if I have similar sized cubes of glass. I use tweezers to manipulate the pieces in the thinset. This is a very quick and relaxing process. As I work down the heart, I add more darks.
3:10 Now I start on the top left side, again angling the pieces to cover thinset on the edge.
3:51 I add some little pops of blue at the end!
4:29 I ended up cutting them a little more than I had planned to, but it was still pretty quick. And a nice project to use up leftover thinset and smalti.

This is so cool! I never would have thought to place the tesserae any other way than flat. It looks awesome. I'm going to have to finally get brave and try thinset. Thanks again for the inspiration!
