If you have a living first wife, you have no business looking for another while your first one is yet living (Mark 10:11-12),(Romans 7:2-4),(1 Corinthians 7:10-11). Love y’all and the fact that you made him pull up the scripture he was referencing. HOWEVER, rolling my eyes at JAMES’ interpretation of the scripture. To be clear, “talents” in this scripture wasn’t referring to natural ability or gifts, it was referring to money (the type of money they were talking about was called talents). And as for what the story was supposed to be a metaphor for: the message is remember to stay vigilant and keep practicing the principles of love & care that Jesus taught because you never know when Jesus is going to return. If you don’t live in Jesus’ way, the idea is that you’ll be left behind while the Earth is being destroyed instead of scooped up and saved by Jesus like the other people who did what they were supposed to do in this life while waiting on Jesus to return. You could LOOSELY interpret this to talk about gifts, but it would have to be interpreted like, “Use your gifts to do good in the world like Jesus told us to do or you’ll be left behind in the rapture.” But again, there is no requirement stated between chapters 24 and 25 about having to use natural talents/gifts in a specific way. Y’all, PLEASE read these verses in context, for yourselves, and with a translation that you can easily understand. I feel like James would have been better off with the NIV version. 😂

@@jamespies9070 again, ultimately the story wasn’t about money. It was about doing God’s will through spreading love and kindness like Jesus taught. You won’t get that from just reading chapter 25 though. You have to go back to at LEAST chapter 24 to get that. Chapter 25 consists of a bunch of stories to better narrate that point. That’s why I talked about the money example being a metaphor. Also, a lot of why we have different religions and interpretations has more to do with power dynamics and control than anything else, but that’s a whole other convo. Speaking of what we’re supposed to do though, let me go ahead and apologize for the shadiness in my prior response. I was triggered and irritated because I don’t like when people preach whole lessons and sermons off of a couple of lines from the Bible out of context. I’ve seen how that’s hurt people historically and it irks me, but I didn’t have to be snarky. I hope you take a moment to further see what I’m talking about and possibly gain something new from the passage.
