Hey, German translator for Murder Drones here (aka I get to decide what every character ends up saying). I'll go through the video and explain every part that confused you :) 1:25 - The reason for the name change was simply that in episode 2, I thought Braidon was just going to be a one-off joke character and nobody would care. Yes, he did return later, but I wasn't really aware at the time and I think his name was never said again after episode 2 anyways. Basically, I thought that Braidon was a rather unusual name many German viewers might have never heard and since it is only said once could confuse a few, so I changed it to a more common German name with a slightly funny connotation, in order for the scene to work better. 1:45 - Since we were not given the original Russian text, I had to improvise by rushing the English text through a translator and kind of guess by listening if it was the correct line. I think I even noticed the end being different, but didn't think about it because we don't have such differences in German. In later episodes though, I checked back with a Russian friend of mine in order to get the lines correct, so I hope this won't be an issue in the future anymore :) 2:14 - This is a longer story. In episode 1, Doll appears in the background with 2 or 3 lines, but they actually were in English, so naturally, we casted a German VA and let her speak German. Then in episode 2, she suddenly started speaking Russian. We looked at the other already released episodes at the time and noticed that she was constantly speaking Russian. So we had a problem to face: change the VA (because she doesn't know Russian) or somehow find a middle ground. We chose the latter, so we only kept small bits in Russian to still give the impression of Russian heritage, but we kept those bits short enough so that our VA could speak them based on hearing (which is also why her accent is probably pretty strong). But by now, I do like this change because it helps people understand the most important parts without having to understand the English subtitles. Also, I tried to kind of put a pattern in her Russian. She mostly speaks German when talking to others and Russian more often when talking to herself - so we kind of get the bilingual-vibe, at least that was the idea :) 2:34 - I know you didn't mention it, but I want to: In German, she calls Uzi a "figure of the shadows" which is a reference back to episode 1, where Uzi kinda calls herself that by saying that Thad is not one. 3:01 - It was, in fact, not softened. The word "verdammt" does not mean silly, but "damned" or "damn". Basically, in German you wouldn't usually just say "Du Hurensohn", but rather "Du verdammter Hurensohn", so it should be pretty clear to German viewers what the Solver would've said had it completed the sentence. 3:19 - not quite, it is a play on words. On the one hand "die Hand reichen" does mean shaking someones hand, but if you break it down, "reichen" means "reaching out" or "handing something over" - so he is simultaneously asking her to shake his hand and to give him the hand. 4:08 - Yeah that one I didn't think through that much. It was rather supposed to be a nod to the German name "Uhrmeister", just replacing the "Uhr" with "Tür". "Tor" would've made more sense given the translation of the doors, but at the same time, he also seems to be into regular doors, so the name still checks out. 4:26 - Again, you didn't mention it so here I go: In German, he calls him "N wie Endlich", which is a reference to the SpongeBob "FUN-Song". 5:49 - It actually isn't called that. "Dance of the Angels" was the title we originally wanted the episode to have and had already added to the subtitles, when Glitch came around and wanted a name change, so the episode is now called "Prom Dance". We handed in new subtitles to match the title, but Glitch seemingly never updated them. We originally wanted every episode to have the word angel in it in reference to the Murder Drones we called Dark Angels. 6:08 - a tick in German can be used as a slightly annoyed but funny insult. I hope I was able to clear up some confusion. If you or anyone here has any more questions about the dub and the changes we made, I am happy to answer those :]

The "hot topic" was probably changed because it is (or mostly was) a clothing store, that didn't really exist outside of the US. Also, in many languages "people" literally translates to "humans" so changing that is necessary, otherwise it makes less sense.

In episode 6, when one of the mechanical raptors bites Tessa, in the spanish dub she directly says "Ah, son of a b*tch!" instead of "Bad dingo!" which I found funny. Also, in the scene where N and Uzi are falling from the sky in episode 4, Uzi gives her tail an European Spanish accent, but then dismisses it because it sounded like a "Fat ass" voice (I know it sounds bad in English, but it's something that only works in Spanish, so...)

3:55 For Hungarian dubs, it is indeed pretty common to voice scenes with texts written in English. Many Hungarians find it hard to learn foreign languages, and can only understand it at a basic level, mainly due to how vastly different the grammar and pronounciation is to other European languages. A more historical reason would be the elder generations' overall experiences during the communist era.

Another doze of facts about russian dub: -Dverchenko, not Doorchenko -captions like "Hold still" and what N wrote in the ep 7 with his oil and also N and Uzi's facetexts are voiced by their actors -ep 7 is called "The judgement day" (Idk why, mb NDR prod is just so into their Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss fandubs, so into that N's actor has like 4 roles who have plenty of screen time)

Fun fact: in the Korean dub of Home, both N and V say “gentle mouths” together which I think makes the moment better than the original… Even though I’m still learning the language, I think that they (unfortunately) said something along the lines of “Golden Retrievers don’t bite well”. Which doesn’t sound as sweet, but I might be translating that clumsily. Another fun fact: in the Spanish dub of the Pilot, instead of saying “your door-specific destiny awaits”, Khan said “your destiny as a Portero awaits”, which is their last name. I think that’s pretty cool. In the Prommening, there’s a small issue with the timing in the Korean dub. When Uzi normally yells “you!” making N and V point to each other, the Korean dub has them point to each other, then Uzi yells. But they make Doll grunt when she closes the doors on Uzi’s dad. In the Spanish dub of Dead End, N and Uzi’s messages to each other were voiced by the actors. 6:20 In the Korean dub of Cabin Fever, Uzi also said something along the lines of eating drones. Also, in the Korean dub, in Mass Destruction, (spoiler alert!!!) There was another blunder (as Jaku put it) where when Khan met up with Lizzy and Thad, Thad didn’t say “Mr. Doorman?” Like in the original. Uzi yelled N’s name to snap him out of his breakdown at the start of the episode. Doll grunts in pain as she stumbles into the church instead of being silent, which helps show just how injured she was. Bonus, in the Spanish dub, N’s confession to Nori is voiced by his actor!

Translations here in Germany often replace names to sound more familiar to the audience. Few Germans know names like Braidon, but Basti is very common. Same goes with character names that use a word play. We usually always translate names with a German word play to make sure viewers understand the joke. In large part this because we have a huge English language deficit in Germany due to history. All people over 30 did not grow up with English in schools and most over 60 do not understand the language at all. English was only made compulsory in German schools in 2004, a year after I was born.

In episode 4 where we have zombie drone Uzi,when V comes Uzi asks if she can talk to N V says in English to her:„I make sure you can’t” And in German she says:„Das kannst du dir abschminken” (You can take off your make-up) In German it’s like:„forget that!” Just in a mean or evil way 2. Doll talks In German Russian AND German so that the audience can understand her better cuz the English title is sometimes not really useful 3. in episode 2 N says to V:„and we maybe grew up in a haunted mansion” In German it’s:„und wir sind vielleicht in Luigi’s Mansion aufgewachsen” Which is in English translated:„and we maybe grew up in Luigi’s mansion” Idk why they did that but it’s kinda funny 4. in episode 2 (again) When N has a ninja star in English Uzi says:„I want a fricking ninja star” And in German she says:„Ich will auch so ein ninja Stern haben” (I also want a ninja star) Either they changed that because they didn’t wanted to ‘curse’ or because they couldn’t say much because the next scene came 5. In episode 1 Uzi can also curse :) When she showed her railgun the first time she said:„versch!ssen geile railgun” And I won’t translate this one cuz idk how to translate that- I hope I don’t forget smth :)

Something from my own experience from growing up with voice actor parents (German), that names are sometimes changed depending on first, how important the character is and how often they appear, and second, what comes after and how long the translation of the sentence is. But it's a rare thing that doesn't happen often unless necessary. Sometimes, we need to change the names of a movie that has the name of the Mc, because we already have a movie with that name.

I have few things you might like for a 3rd video (because I watch murder drones in Spanish) so in the pilot when N says he is a “angsty and cool disassembly drone” in spanish he says that he is a “cool BASED disassembly drone” in episode 3 when Uzi and N arrived to the prom Uzi literally just calls doll a bitch and in episode 4 when N trows Uzi he calls he calls her “pequeñín” basically calling her shorty also in that episode when Uzi says that the voice she gave her tail was weird she originally said in Spanish “sonaba a gordo jugador de lol (league of legends) de todos modos” which means “it sounded like a fat player of league of legends anyway” but they changed that and it’s no longer on the episode, from episode 4 and on they just translated everything whit out changing anything

I believe that the Ukrainian dub is the best among the other dubs. In addition to the fact that it uses proper Ukrainian (unlike other cartoons that include words from Surzhik), the voices are as similar as possible to the original ones (and sometimes even better than the original. J’s voice in the Ukrainian dub is the best). The idea of Doll speaking in Surzhik is the best for me because it emphasizes that she is trying to speak the same language as the other drones in the colony, but includes words from her native language. If all the voice effects were still used in the dub (for example, there is no voice effect when Khan comes to Uzi for the first time in episode 5), then it would be very cool overall I consider the Russian dub to be the worst, because the voices don't fit at all, and Doll's English is too bad

The german in the scene where Lizzy waves around Vs arm is actually a play of words. While in English he thanks her, in German N jokingly replies to Lizzys "What do I do with this" with "Lend me a hand?" ("Jemanden die Hand reichen" basically means to give someone a hand to help OR a hand to shake as in a welcome gesture.) If we ask for help in german we sometimes ask "can you give me a hand?"

The reason we use different names is a form of recognization in the country, since the name is not popular for most of us to actually recognize in our area (it depends if you realise it) of the country, Germany. Since there are two separate areas of Germany (used to be). And of course there are many different reasons

Here it is rather an incomplete phrase (this is normal in the Ukrainian language), which with a certain "fantasy" can become an insult. Frankly, Uzi says that she wishes this character bad luck, but in a light way. In Ukrainian it looks like this: “Щоб тебе” (the full phrase is likely to look like this: “Щоб тебе чорти вхопили”). In English, maybe, it translate as “Damn you”

Fun fact: at 0:31 in German, the conversation between Tim and the hologram is very different. The conversation between the hologram and Tim is: (this is from memory, Not exactly what they Said but Close) Hologram: "hallo Tim, kommst du mal her" Tim: "seit wann hab ich gesagt, dass du mich dutzen kannst?" Hologram: "können sie mal her kommen?" Which in english means: Hologram: hello Tim, can you (informally) come Here?" Tim: "since when did I say you could address me informally?" Hologram: Can you (formally) come here?"

im here to provide some stuff for chinese episode 2 - tessa is now named 特莎 (te'sha), and this is interesting; the first character means "special", but the second character actually translates to a different english name, which is "sarah", but the character itself looks like the one for "sand" but with the "suffix" of "flower" khan's last name is finally revealed in this episode, and it's kind of funny: 多门, which literally sounds like doorman (do'men) but actually means "a lot of doors" braiden is now 布莱登 (bu'lai'den), which is just the translation for braiden. nothing special there. thad's name is now translated to 萨德 (sa'de), which, funny enough, sounds more like "sad" thad calls uzi "阿奇 (a'qi)" which is a nickname for uzi, but interestingly enough he calls n "恩老兄 (enlaoxiong)", which means "big brother n" the solver's projections actually sound completely normal, this is probably because if it was distorted nobody would understand it since tones do matter in chinese doll does in fact speak russian in the chinese version absolute solver is... still just the absolute solver. they literally just say it in english. strangely enough, though, solver on its own is spoken in chinese. when uzi kicks the ninja star and yells "kya", she instead yells "yes it is" in chinese, this is because the projection of thad asked "is that a ninja star", and uzi actually answers him by saying "yes" the solver doesn't actually sound like a robot but instead sounds like someone trapped inside of a metal box, which i found interesting here's some solver lines: "close one" -> "get out of here, trash" "snarl" -> "come play" "pranked idiot" -> "good job, idiot" "you big stupid" -> "you wasted your chance" "lucky for you, it's snack time" -> "good luck, it's time for dessert" also, when the railgun turns red, there is no alarm blaring in the chinese version episode 3 - khan saying "i'm chaperoning" turns into "i'm going with you" in chinese instead of saying "noooooo" after hearing that uzi has to go to prom, she just screams. literally. n says "i'm not letting you go to prom to go on a killing spree" instead of saying "i'm not freeing you for prom murder" v does not say the word "promise" when asking n and uzi to stop looking into what the murder drones are doll's name is 朵尔 (duo'er), which kind of means "a flower" lizzy says "are you joking? she's joking" instead of saying "you're hilarious. she's hilarious" uzi actually does say "hold it, robot satan, not this mirror" in the chinese version when uzi hears about lizzy's plan and says "what the f-", uzi instead says "what the" but doesn't get to say the fourth word, which is presumably the word for "hell" since there isn't really a phrase for "what the f*ck" n does not call himself "dapper n"; instead, he calls himself "handsome bro n" lizzy does not use the term "prom queen", but instead replaces it with "prom empress" uzi says "hold it there, you..." instead of "unhand them you fiend...?" lizzy says "you're way cooler than doll" instead of "you're way hotter than doll" when lizzy tells v to run, v actually makes a noise that means you're confused in chinese, then promptly gets impaled the screaming when v has her arms impaled is way more clear in the chinese version, but only the screams the subtitles for when doll says "anyway you get it" is instead "nevermind, you know everything" when doll says "i don't need help", the subtitles say "even if you didn't exist, the results would always be the same" v saying "you traitor" is greatly emphasized, with her saying "you traitor, you should die" lizzy's name is then finally revealed to be 丽兹 (li'zi), which could mean "with beauty" instead of saying "shut up loser", lizzy and v both say "shut up idiot" uzi says "v, we needed to keep her alive!" instead of just saying "we needed her for answers" the phrase "what? she's fine... a little tuckered out" that v says is now "what? she's not dead, she's just a little tired" v saying "n you suck" is apparently now "n you asshole", i'm not even joking. however, when n says "v you kinda suck" it's now changed to "v you're disgusting" uzi saying "lucky for you we're not done yet" is now "you're lucky, thankfully there's still clues" uzi says "so annoying" instead of "i hate it here" episode 4 - the bus driver says "good baby" instead of "good girl" after v shoots a kid and everyone is attentive, the english version has subtitles that says "overlapping shouted numbers", but in the chinese version it has the numbers 12 and 17 after v grabs the kid's hand and says "nah just full of love", the chinese version makes a funny pun, saying "nevermind, i'd like to be more full of sunshine" which is funny considering that they burn in sunlight uzi says "sorry little one, let me fix you up" instead of "sorry buddy got you good" uzi's laugh is a lot quieter but more sinister lizzy instead says "you wanna fight?" instead of "clashing?" v does still say "new body same horrors" but leaves the cyn part absent, and uzi then says "i don't know what you're talking about" instead of "i don't know who that is" since it wouldn't make sense when the missile lands next to lizzy, she literally just poses and doesn't even groan when n gets stabbed by uzi, he doesn't even say "ow", he just laughs and says "here we go" and yeets uzi into the sky after n and uzi land, n says a classical chinese joke/saying: "you can't eat hot tofu when you rush", which is basically telling uzi to take it easy on herself and that's all, sorry if this is a textwall
