Another great video Marc and one we especially loved. In 2016 we were fortunate enough to be able to make a trip to your country arriving the day after Labor Day. Flying from Spain via Dublin & Chicago we arrived in Denver. We drove all the way to Billings on day one and then on day two crossed the Beartooth Highway on our way to Yellowstone. Just two days before we made that trip, the highway was closed due to bad weather. Thankfully conditions had improved and we were able to make the crossing without any complications. It will always stay with us as a special & spectacular journey and your video has brought all those memories flooding back. Many thanks for sharing it with us.

Stunningly beautiful country. Our first trip to Yellowstone last year, we came via Badlands, Rushmore, Devils Tower and opted to go up and back down through the Beartooth Highway. A perfect drive, we had good weather and really enjoyed it. So much so that by the time we got to Yellowstone, we were almost underwhelmed after having seen all of those sights! Can't wait to do it again someday. Wonderful video.

We took the drive from Cody up Red Lodge with a stop in Cooke many years ago in our Miata on the same route. It is indeed a beautiful road and rivals anything we have here in Colorado. Thank you Doug! We're kind of throwing in the towel for the next week. We've been boondocking at 6800 ft this week and we have been comfortable; however, with the forecast and much lower elevations in most of Montana, we are going to retreat to hookups for the coming week.

I (Tab) never learned how to ski or even swim that well (I can float and doggy paddle, does that count? LOL!) but Ron has tried surfing and diving, and other water sports. You sure make kayaking look easy AND beautiful, may be something we have to try at some point.

We definitely criss-crossed paths! We were camped in Yellowstone, at Grant Village, June 27-Jun 30. No hookups there at all. The elevation and being on the lake kept temps inside the trailer bearable with some battery powered fans. On July 30, we drove out the northeast entrance, through Cooke City, up to the summit of Beartooth Pass from the Wyoming side. Loved our time in Yellowstone before heading south to Grand Teton and to Idaho July 1.

Two other thoughts. Not sure where you are headed fo sure since the heat is changing your plans. Two more thoughts: 1. Buffalo Bill State Park west of Cody, Wyoming. North Fork campground is gorgeous! They have electricity. No other hookups, but electricity makes lots of things good, especially AC. Buffalo Bill Reservoir is a beautiful lake. 2. Depending on where you are headed, the area in Idaho south of West Yellowstone and north of Ashton, Idaho is gorgeous! Mesa National Scenic Area. Saw people kayaking on the river there. Learned about this place from Traveling Robert last year.

@@TheBruceGday we were definitely in close proximity, Bruce, for we were still camped in Bridger when you drove the Beartooth, and we drove it ourselves on July 3rd. Hi Marc, I enjoyed the Beartooth Highway. The history was interesting. Do you do a lot of book reading? Kayaking was relaxing. It looked like it was way out in the boonies, but when I checked the satellite map, it showed all the houses around the lake. I did hear you say it was all private land around the lake. Thanks for sharing. Ram 👍🏼👍🏽

Beautiful filming. I was hoping you would show a bit of Silvergate. I know it's small, but it is picturesque. There are a couple of waterfalls you can hike to. In the '60's they used to have horses next to the Range Riders Lodge that you could rent with a guide to go out to the falls.

@@GrandAdventure Like a lot of small towns here in MT - if you sneeze you've missed it. I think Silver Gate more than qualifies as small. Other than a couple of hikes, fishing in the river, and looking at free-roaming Bison while watching out for bears, there is not too much going on. It can all definitely wait for another day.

Nice graupel! A couple friends and I rode motorbikes from back east to ride the Beartooth. We were stopped at the pass by snow on the WY side and had to backtrack via the Chief Joseph Hwy. to Cooke City. Not too bad a detour and another reason to return. Great video as always Mark!
@GrandAdventure

That's precisely what happened to us in 2018, Mark. It started snowing on the pass and I truly felt sorry for the motorcyclists in front of us riding through the slush on the road. On that 2018 trip they closed the road behind us while we were in Cooke City and also had to take the Chief Joseph to get back to Red Lodge. Just a side note technicality, that was actually hail in Cooke City from a thunderstorm, rather than graupel (which is a darned fine surface to ski on, BTW).

Thanks Marc... loved it! What was the temperature at the summit of the pass? The weather in the mountains changes constantly, doesn't it? You went through at least two periods of rain with some sleet and hail at altitude. I can see why you headed that way at this time. The drive through that pass is only open for about two and a half months in the year. Which means if you wanted to do that... it was now or never heading into August. I loved the kayaking video footage. Those mountain lakes with the mountain marshes, I found fascinating. Very different and very peaceful as you were sneaking around the vegetation in your kayak. My only regret is that the adventure ended too soon. Actually, it was perfect. The Beartooth Mountain scenery along that highway was really spectacular. Cheers... as I drink my evening beverage. Gord

Cheers to you Gord! Yes, the marshland at the inlet to the lake was fascinating to paddle through, even if terribly shallow. It was in the low 50s atop Beartooth Pass, and I hurriedly shot those scenes as thunder was rumbling all around and the hail began to fall. This was our second trip over the Beartooth, and it won't be our last.

Amazing scenery & interesting history in that area. Seeing that you drove on the Chief Joseph Highway reminded me of when I tried to visit the Chief Joseph Ranch in Darby, MT. They were filming the show “Yellowstone” at the time (I’m a huge fan!), so it was closed to the public. They also had a really tough looking security guard at the entrance who even prevented me from getting out of my car to take a picture of the “Yellowstone Ranch” sign! Oh well, better luck next time!

@@cheriwaller7598 we love that camera/lens combo, it's our workhorse camera. The lens is f4.0 throughout the range, a rarity that makes it a little bit pricey, but the motorized zoom is both smooth and silent. The a6500 has in-body stabilization, which is excellent for hand-held shots in combination with the lens stabilization. Those fireworks shots were handheld, believe it or not. The newer a6600 has it as well.

Not really, Doug - unfortunately. And it looks to remain hot in the extended forecast. We just saw that SLC is on track to easily surpass its record of the number of 100+° days in one year. It's a very unusual summer in the West.
