Ep. 23 SO MANY MOSAIC PROJECTS! Grouting smalls, Necowa Cove, finishing touches, & the magnolia!

Ep. 23 So many mosaic projects! Grouting some mosaic smalls, Necowa Cove stained glass mosaic, finishing touches, a Surprise & starting the magnolia!
Minute mark 1:05 I grout the terrarium turned mosaic candle holder ornament and the crow with a black sanded grout. To make quick work of the 3-D and textured surfaces, I've pulled out my grout brush!
3:17 Adding some reinforcement to a cradle board base that is just a bit too flimsy with Hydroban board by Laticrete. I used Power Grab to adhere it in place.
4:01 Now the fun begins! I start a new project by sketching out a thumbnail, then resketching it on the substrate. Then I begin laying in the sky, followed by mountains, lake and foreground using stained glass and Weldbond adhesive. Last of all I fill in the mid-ground mountains. This mosaic was made from a photo I took on my phone of Necowa Cove, GA.
5:47 I decide to get a tiny bit of mosaic work done on my sister's big floral for her birthday!
6:40 Nothing like an exhibition deadline to motivate the finishing touches on a mosaic! Day by Day gets a nice coat of gray thinset to clean up the edges.
7:40 Back to the big floral, I made a bunch of mosaic morning glories in a glorious blue! I'm using Weldbond adhesive.
8:11 Clearly I have problems focusing! I decide to start another project, this time a set of 5 hanging mosaic hearts. Priming is the first step.
8:40 The Necowa Cove mosaic is grouted with gray sanded grout.
9:04 The primer is dry and I get started on the hearts with stained glass and matching frit balls, using Weldbond adhesive! Frit balls are made from small pieces of fusible glass put in a kiln for a full fuse. The heat melts the glass and the surface tension turns them into little delicious balls of glass that are terrific in mosaics! Then I decide to paint the backs and edges.
9:50 Using acrylic paint, I lay in the magnolia flower on the Hydroban base that I prepared. Once it is dry, I start adding glass in the center area. I keep working on it, almost finishing the first petal! WHEW! So many projects this week that I did NOT get started on the pendants.
BONUS: I quickly and easily paint out the wrong color glass. HA!
EXTRA BONUS: Update on the bear and owl mosaics that my nephews are making.
