My favorite part of the star spangled banner exhibit was actually the interactive display explaining all the features and imperfections on the the flag. So much history in those threads.

It was unfortunately really glitchy for us when we tried to use it, so we didn't get to enjoy it as I know we could have. Still an incredible amount to be learned from that exhibit though and hopefully next time it'll be up and working again.

We loved Cherry Hill! But the bus to the metro is the way to go. We were there for a week and never had to crank the truck. It made for a very stress free trip.

We considered it, but we had a few trips where we arrived back later in the evening and wanted to ensure we could get home and didn’t have to wait. Glad to hear it’s as awesome as the metro.

Hey Jason & Abby, we are staying at Cherry Hill right now and i rewatched your video for some tips. I think you were riding one of the older trains. The newer trains have everything you described about the Chicago trains. We’ve been on them a few times and have ridden both old and new. Luckily we rode the new one first so we knew the stops by the time we hit an old train. Your video was helpful on our trip so thank you 👍🏼

Abby and Jason love your black tanks and fresh tanks. Abby with your flag flash picture and the fires that happen they let you know on an app. I’m glad that they do that. They should put it on GPS as well. To let travelers know if the fires. And Jason love yours about the resin in DC. They should let you know like they do in Chicago where you can get out at if need be. And with that Ember that’s cute with it being a toy hauler now too! Hope you have a great night and see you soon!

For the next time you come to DC, you can take bicycles on the Metro, if the car is not too crowded. Bicycles are a great way to get around the mall and the monuments, not as practical if you plan all day at the Smithsonian museums. Early mornings on the weekends, there is often parking by the river near the FDR memorial and near Hain's point. If you get the chance, go to the Air & Space annex out by Dulles Airport. You can see one of the space shuttles and a SR71 Blackbird along with many other aircraft.

Exactly a year ago I was bit by a tick while traveling through arizona. 6weeks of hospital stay and months of rehab (prayers and great nursing staff). I am back to normal. The tick virus erlichiosis is rare, but it does require strong antibiotics. Take ticks seriously- when possible save a tick to get tested.

Goodness! That sounds incredibly difficult and I’m glad to read you are back to normal and in good health. Thank you for sharing this with us and with the community here! -A

Wow! What a nice place to stay. I wouldn’t mind staying there myself. It’s almost like when I used to live in a mobile trailer park out here in Vegas the park on certain days had busses that would come and take you to casinos. That was nice. But the park you were at sounds great!

We went to DC 3 years ago just before Covid 19, drove to station and took the metro. I believe there were displays for the stops coming up and maps as well. BTW my husband is Claustrophobic and had some concern about going underground. It was not a problem since they are well lit and fairly spacious.

August for downtown DC is pretty empty also, but it's also hot and humid and highly likely to thunderstorm in the late afternoon. DC Metro used to have maps and announcements (from the conductor via an extremely poor speaker system). It is severely underfunded due to DC, Maryland and Virginia all resisting any increased funding. That has led to safety problems.

Well, the arguing over who pays what explains a lot. Thanks for that insight!

This! You guys did a great job highlighting DC! We live and worked (before covid) here for 20 yrs. Thank GOD for remote work now. Jason, no one likes DCMetro, they just don't seem to care. Founding Farmer's is our fav restaurant by far! Great tip Abby re Smoke alters on Campendium. :-)

Did you make it to Arlington and especially the Tomb of the Unknowns. If not, it is a must see at your next visit. The Changing of the Guard ceremony is extremely moving.
@RVMilesPodcast2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, no. There was so much we wanted to do but heat and weather altered our plans.
@davelauraphillips88142 жыл бұрын
@@RVMilesPodcast so, if your visit to the Tomb of the Unknowns happens to coincide with veterans as part of an Honor Flight or similar VIP's, pay special attention to the Sargent of the Guard. His footfalls will periodically drag a foot to acknowledge the presence of the distinguished visitors. It is very subtle and easy to miss unless you are watching for it. That is what we were told during the Honor Flight that I was privileged to participate to sevre in as a guardian for my father. Even without that it is a great ceremony to observe.

Do you remember if you can take pet on the bus? (non service animal). I will have to research monuments and subways etc if they can but just wondered if you knew on the top of your head. I just didn't want to come back to rig with a pee accident or worse.

I'm sorry, but I don't remember. My uneducated guess is, no, unless its a service animal, but I would definitely check out the website for info. good luck! -A

I imagine at times the job gets pretty frustrating and lots of pieces moving at once. This didn’t appear to be one of those moments, it was very slow when we arrived, but I don’t know what goes on behind the scenes. My hope is that whatever is happening, they could still find a way to keep calm and not bark at me because I don’t know what X they’d like me to put in the tray and what X they’d like me to keep on because nothing was communicated and there were no posted instructions. Thank you for the work you did/do in the security arena and for taking the time to share your thoughts. I do truly appreciate it. -A
