34:37 sadly the very judicial system is responsible for a huge chunk of suicides and mental health issues Need example??? Remember Atul Subhash... It's not just in that particular kind of cases, it's true for most cases where a middle class or a financially poor person approaches the judiciary/police
@nzpers

You hit the bulls eye! The very convoluted and corrupt justice delivery system has been responsible for reducing people to poverty (long drawn procedure even in open and shut cases), mental traumas, social stigma etc. Enough accountability is not assigned to our inhuman judicial system.

I was quite hopeful about this podcast....but straight up so much deviation and unanswered points put me off. Smita ji, kindly ask relevant questions and complete answer should be provided or discussed before moving on to the next point.

First, people stop volunteering himself to be treated as slave, Second, working hours should be 6 hours in a day, Third, government should take initiative reform on the laws to contain stress at work place, etc.

Sorry but Smita has failed to ask right questions this time. She continuously deviated from the core mental health topic. This shows even educated people have very bad level of awareness. This is our reality. As doctor has rightly mentioned so many things we have over normalised it in India.

Asking for enlightenment since I thought SP asked good questions… what are the important right questions that missed? Would you please outline a few of them? TIA

Kudos to Smita for bringing him. There is very poor understanding of mental health among the physicians themselves. What the Dr. says is so true it is as if some zombie has taken over the mind and intellect. There are few specialists who understands the situation to give right advice, empathy and sympathy does not help, understanding the core issue and giving the right direction helps a lot.

A true spiritual guru helps more than just at a psychological help. Not only those with mental issues go to a guru. It is more holistic even in providing psychological help. A psychiatrist treats only at a mental level, even prescribing drugs at times.

Psychiatric drugs can be addictive. Its not a myth. Eg. sertraline. Once you start, you cannot stop suddenly. You have to be weaned off slowly. So councelling is better choice. But india doesnt have many. Many conmen/conwomen exist.

Sertraline is a mild drug....n it helps us to keep going n do our routine chores....these drugs are our saviours in the lonely lives we lead. People neither have time, nor inclination to listen nor empathy.... that's the sad truth

Due to flooding mental health patients won't be able to go for consultations and purchase their medicines. Psychotropic drugs can cause hyponatremia and global warming and high temperature can worsen this condition. Rest of ur conversation on climate is flimsy. Winter season can cause seasonal affective disorder.
