Very nice video. A couple of discussion points. With some boats sheeting the mizzen in hard means that one moment the wind comes from the port bow and next moment the starboard bow with the sail flopping from side to side. Keeping the mizzen slightly eased means that there is not enough power in it to take the nose from one side of the wind direction to the other. The boat will be more stable and the crew can stay on the side to windward of the sail without it blowing back. Also with mizzen - in hard or near hard takes you backwards. Loose takes you forward and sideways and in between takes you laterally sideways. So the mizzen can be adjusted to get the angle of drift relative to the wind that you want. I'm sure fishing ketches (the word Ketch is related to the word "catch" and is a fishing boat rig) used the same trick to trawl through the area that they want. But also good for navigation if reefing near sandbar or rocks or other navigational hazard to have a well over 90 degree arc (on one tack) the boat can be sailed through with the main down or released from dead astern to reaching and everything in between. So great to see each boat from the other. One of the big advantages of sailing in a group. Great for us viewing the video too!

Great learning points about the mizzen. I'm going try that next outing. Thanks.

I watch sailboat channels to see boats sailing. Yours is one of the best. I especially liked the multiple POV from the different boats. Keep up the great work. As long as you post, I shall watch.

Great video! You always amaze me with the way that you adjust the camera angle on the fly -- you always seem to get that perfect shot. Loved while you were racing across by the bridge and gave us the port view of the other boat -- just great work.

I was sitting on the deck watching you have all the fun, I thought it might have been you. I nearly made it out for a sail. Great vid

Lots of fun! Fell in love with Pathfinder/Navigator design, but it was out of my reach money-wise. Just bought a Core Sound 17, but it's been a very hot and airless fall here in central Texas, so I haven't had it out yet. Sure did enjoy watching your lug yawl and his Gunter yawl. You were so right about shifting weight a little forward and getting the transom out of the water. Those speed-robbing eddies are certainly to be avoided. Best wishes for a great summer of sailing!

Thank you for this video. I didn't understand why "Mikael Storer system" was not so good to reef... but I'm going to look at the video again...🙂

Great sail, hanging to finish my goat & get her in the water. Your navigator is a brilliant all rounder, agree about the rig. That pathfinder is a work of art. Enjoyed the vid, cheers

G'day mate. The way those things fly, you could get over here in 3 days..? Maybe.? Let me know when you're on your way, and I'll put the kettle on, and do some date scones for you. Just one tiny criticism. You should have had a baited line out the back. Never waste a moment. Haha. Thanks for sharing. All the very best from across the ditch here in Nz.

Thanks mate. Appreciate the comment. After hooking a 9kg Kingfish last season under full sail doing 8kts solo and getting into a bit of a pickle, I don't bother trolling anymore...

@@SmallCraftTasmania-ms4sx Did you say 9kg..? We use them for bait.!! Cheers.

As usual, a very entertaining and also informative video! I love them. You make it always look so easy, sailing in big winds. A few comments and questions: 1. The Core Sound 15 is a boat that interests me a lot. I would like to see and hear more about it. Is it your friend Ben's boat? He seems to be a very experienced and keen sailor, so if he chooses it as his boat that would be a big endorsement. have you got any videos of the CS15 in bigger winds? I would love to see them. 2. I have a Caledonia Yawl and so far I never managed to sail downwind with her under mizzen alone. She just turns into the wind. If I understood the comment of Michael Storer below correctly I must have had the mizzen sheeted in too hard. That is quite possible and your video motivated me to try again next summer (for us here in Quebec the sailing season is unfortunately over, we are waiting for the hard water season). 3. A question concerning your Compac-16 videos: What are the dimensions of your new rudder-blade from Ruddercraft and do you know if it is shaped as a NACA profile and which max thickness? The reason I am asking is that I want to make a better shaped rudder fro my CY and I am trying to get info on other rudders that work well. Thanks a lot, Viktor

Awesome video work. I’m considering an ePropulion motor for my Pathfinder. How do you find it?
@SmallCraftTasmania-ms4sxАй бұрын
Highly recommend the ePro! We used less than 5% for this Episode and she gets along very well at just 200 watts.

Thanks for this. Great Video. Is the standing lug you have flying from Welsford's spec (I believe he specified a standing lug variant) for the Nav or did you deviate and use something else?

How far behind would Sea Dog be if it were in the 'race' against these two?
