I'm so satisfied Trexler has the tweed with elbow patches and ponders on pipe. I wouldn't have scientists any other way.

Hope there’s a follow up episode on some of the topics toward the end of the episode (mindset, dealing with challenges, empathy, etc). This was excellent.

Very interesting podcast! I also wrestled in highschool and did mostly powerlifting training (bigger faster stronger program), I got fairly strong but wish I would’ve done more bodybuilding work to obtain more mass to not be tossed around in my weigh class lol. I weighed 200-205# but wrestled 215#. Oh to look back and wish things would’ve been different with what we know now!

This probably isn’t the best place for a question like this but how do you know if you would benefit from lower/higher protein intake. Rather than just doing the “safe amount” of 1g/lb, since results come too slow it’s too hard to tell if anything is better or worse

I think experiences like injuries and having to train at home resulting in diminished motivation is in part, related to identity. I hate training at home because my "athlete" identity is not strongly related to my home life. that's where I'm a dad and husband. The gym and at competitions are where I'm an athlete. My identity is then wrapped up in my capacity and just doing exercise bands in my living room 8is so far removed from my known capacity that it's actually demotivating. This then is related to the motivation literature in which motivation is generally highest when we face challenge.

I think it's obvious that doctor Trexler is a zen monk. At least partially. Iron Monk?
