But Steven Pinker is known to be a capitalist/imperialist evanglist who distorts data, purposefully, and when called out simply doesn't respond. "The world is getting better and poverty is on an all time low, for whom? No one mentions how the measurements for what is considered poverty line has been changed by the very same people Pinker is in collaboration with. He also counts deaths of hunter gatherers caused by imperialists as proof of how violent their societies are. He also doesn't differentiate between hunter gatherers and pre agriculture societies where they do have some form of hoarding. He speaks to imperialists and capitalists who want to believe that people not having universal healthcare is totally great and just. And peasant brains instantky regurgitate his intellectually dishonest flawed data. So sad. Americans, do some research, stop supporting systems that go against your interests. Sure if you are upper middle or upper class, of course you don't need universal healthcare, whereas most Americans actually do. God, how stupid has the average American.become.

I really enjoy going through this old episodes again. There were a lot of gems. I have only now started to understand this concept of strength being expressed in different ways. Like when I was busy in school and couldn't hit the gym, but I managed to do some judo every now and then, by the summer when I could train again I easily hit a squat PR after a judo session, just casually walked to the bar and did warm up sets to a light feeling PR. Because surprisingly lifting 60-90 kg people with your leg power for 90 minutes a couple of times a week does actually grow your strength. I also realised how crucial high bar or front squatting is to sports, for example judo that looks like you throw with arms and stay standing. In the end all the power in the body seems to come from legs at the end of the day, all the movements have a knee bend and extension. My hamstrings have also achieved a new level. I realised that this leg throw uchi mata is basically a single leg RDL where you attach a person on your thigh (honestly the weight is mostly on their supporting leg, but you can still lift the person fully in the air with your leg, there's a cool clip of Shohei Ono holding a seminar in Europe where he does the throw without arms, just turns and lifts the leg to throw his training partner upside down) and lift the leg towards the roof. And I have never had as much side delt work when every throw starts with pulling the opponent on their toes from the sleeve, that's an elbow raised to your ear level. I'm starting to get why you can get jacked by just doing the sport even though the better your technique is, the less you use strength. Not as all-around jacked (especially if you don't eat in surplus) as at the gym, but noticeably jacked. Similar revelation came from weightlifting. I thought if your squat is at 100 kg range, doing singles, doubles and triples 20-30 kg wouldn't do a thing, maybe accessory pulls at 40-50 kg. To my surprise it does a lot, it's a rarity that I don't feel like my quads have worked hard. It's such a drastically different way of training that I couldn't fathom it could have the same effects as hypertrophy work, even strength work. It doesn't get you to look like a bodybuilder either, but compared to someone who doesn't lift people might just think you look like one (given that you don't have powerbelly but abs). Both of these sports are also more effective than any ab/core training I've ever done. You might start losing the narrow waist but you look strong as a tradeoff. Also similarly weightlifting was the most effective delt training I've ever done. And I think the benefit to these sports is that you don't really think of them as muscle builders but you're focused on the performance and probably enjoy it, so the muscle and strength comes almost as a sidenote and doesn't feel like a stressful effort because it's not your primary objective and focus, you don't fret about training it just right with just the right effort, because it comes but serves the other values. I'm no longer concerned that I'm halting the process if I can't go to the gym or do hypertrophy work. I even noticed powerlifting strength focused program probably got me the biggest gains I've had, just because the intensity is on that level and it was completely new to me. And frankly you don't always have to be optimal about single attribute progress like you discussed about crossfit here. Gaining noticeable progress in multiple attributes for recreational athlete is something people around them notice like night and day and think they're the strongest and most jacked person they know. Like very rarely except in these sports designed to express your maximum strength the peak 1RM matters at all. The minimum strength is far more important - what can you easily lift any day of the week. And that +1x bodyweight squat and deadlift does such huge things to your everyday life. The backpack and shopping bag don't weigh anything to you anymore. You get surprised when someone says they might struggle walking a reasonable distance with a backpack and when you try it, you don't really notice the weight.

I only listen to the nonsense intros. The rest I guess based on the title of the podcast. This week I've been enamoured by Andre Antunes' song Eating the Dogs (Donald Metal). I hope you guys can reach the level of Donald Trump in coming up with iconic and catchy Iron related catch phrases that turn into great riffs and melodies. "People on television are saying my dog was taken and used for food, so." Brilliant rhythm and melody. It would really partner up great with a Tiktok dance. Also can we get Raskol BDSM-shirt to EU, the shipping from the US store is the same as the whole order would be in EU store.

Interesting thing about caffeine in tea. There was a point in my mums life where she got into a cycle of needing to drink tea. she said that if she didn't have a cup soon after waking up she would have headaches. At the time, little me didn't even know tea contained caffeine. It was only afterwards that I realised she got withdrawal symptoms from it. I then realised that she probably is extremely sensitive to caffeine. She got over it many years ago, but I do remember how much it had affected her

I disagree. I think discussion on philosophy of science is good to hear, especially for people in my demographic - grew up in a culture where I was told that all the answers were known, left that culture and got big into science so I needed to adjust to the acceptance that the answers, if they're even findable, are still being looked for.

@@JoeMazzolaTheFirstPersonCook For the general population who click on this video to listen and learn about the topic listed in the title, the philosophy in the beginning is a waste of time. You’re not going into the gym with that philosophy in the back of your head. Most people would go on about their day and can’t even recall what the philosophical discussion was about. Hence why I’m adamant about getting straight to the point. Also, all scientific philosophy has to do with never being 100% certain about studies/things always take the middle ground as there is more yet to be studied/understood. They’re just going in circles around that specific philosophy in science, using different words, analogies, homologies, etc.

I get where you're coming from but in my experience the people who would benefit most from that kimd of discussion don't want or know to look for it. On a totally enjoyment-related not I specifically like a slow paced video. I'm not here for efficiency, I save that for work. Gotta slow down and enjoy life somewhere, right? I totally get that's a subjective thing though.

I don't follow competitive bodybuilding but Alex Leonidas I see as a massive inspiration. He's jacked but also stupidly strong and I'm a fan of the training philosophy he's developed and shared. He's remained pretty much injury free while training normally controversial movements and training them heavy. Enkiri fitness is also an absolute savage

In Schoenfeld 2017, Radaelli 2015 was relevant in the sensitivity analysis. If accounted dose response diminishes. In Baz-Valle sensitivity analysis was not performed and Radaelli 2015 was included (and is always weighted heavily even though results are against rest of the literature). If accounted, probably dose response would diminish. Looking forward to reading the new one. Anyways... I think people are obsessing about that optimal number and its going to end up beign highly individual.

Does anyone do gpp phases in hypertrophy training like in powerlifting or weightlifting? Preparing for your actual training by increasing work capacity by light intensity and increasingly high volume. Does it even make sense when in hypertrophy training the goal of the training is not accumulating the volume in desired intensity and in general rather specific way to train?

Whoa fully under educated here having had info overload. How does the body respond to using muscle as fuel as well as fat when it's in a protein rich environment from diet.. if the body adapts to using excess protein as fuel is it more primed to use existing muscle in extreme deficits? I'm sure if the answers were readily available you'd say- I know a lot of folks still hit way over the 1.6/kg recommendations when lean but it seems the cutting edge is really leaning into keeping carbs and fats as high as possible for as long as possible.
