This seems to be the common theme. The patchwork veneer on the door. I had the same response when I peeled the paint back for the first time. I wasn't even sure if I loved it or hated it right away. Love it now. Thank you Mary. Barry

Me too - I actually gasped! Since this was for your own personal use and pleasure, my opinion doesn't make a bit of difference, but I would probably have tried to repair the veneer with patching and touch-up. Anything, though, would have been an improvement over blue paint slathered on everything; baffles me how people think that is a good look. Love how the different tones of the wood worked together as a harmony, pleased you didn't try to make it look all one shade.

I love how you used the walnut shells, that's a great tip! I worked in furniture restoration for a high end company for a number of years and I'll provide one tip for a piece like this that sounds harder, but can achieve much better results and allows for easier veneer repair - disassemble the cabinet. Almost always the glue had failed anyways on cabinets of this age, and taking everything apart makes working with the veneer a cinch as you're dealing with flat panels. Why do all these restorers use circular sanders instead of those that go back and forth? I forget what they are cslled.
@noexpensespentstudios
@noexpensespentstudios 3 жыл бұрын
@@phillipstephens4522 Because they're easier to use, easier to control, and more effective. The old vibrating brick type sanders are nowhere near as effective as an orbital sander. The belt sander types with an endless roll of sandpaper are too aggressive for this sort of work, fine for shaping wood, but much too aggressive for removing finish. The orbital sanders refinishers use give you so much control you can use them on even quite thin veneers if you're careful, and on very heavy finishes without fear of damaging what's underneath.

Wow, you really turned that into something almost too nice for use in your garage! Frankly I was surprised it turned out so well, as I thought all the damage that the seller failed to reveal was going to be overwhelming. I was expecting the black paint to come out! As your final staging scenes showed, it would look great in someone’s living room, or other room. You are definitely building up your skills.

I think my favorite part is how the wood just came alive when you put the conditioner on it. The final piece is gorgeous. It is so satisfying to watch you take the old paint off, restore the hardware and especially loved the way you tied in moisturizing your hands along with moisturizing the wood, inside and out. Most people I watch refinishing furniture don't often take the time to moisturize the inside of the drawers let alone the underside and the entire back of the piece. Accompanying music is soothing and appropriate. A beautiful transformation . Well done. I always look forward to your videos on both channels.

I'm so excited that piece found you. I'm sure, I'm not the only one who raised their eyebrows when you uncovered the stripped design on the door. That was an awesome moment on this particular video. I have used the Restor a finish on my 16 year old Bassett furniture in the dark walnut. It is magical....then when you use the feed n wax it becomes exquisite. My furniture is in good condition but the upscale this has given my pieces without stripping them has saved me countless hours and made me appreciate the product more. I was happy to see how the Howard's dark wax worked on your piece. The music with the snow and your voice was very soothing. Keep up the videos with the special thank yours and cards of support in the background. It sets you apart.

1. My daughter just introduced me to your channel by sending me this video. 2. Beauty is definitely subjective because (no offense to the previous owner), "gorgeous" is not a word I would use to describe that piece when it was hot mess Smurf blue. But you know, to each his own. 3. I appreciate how meticulous you are. 4. I appreciate how CLEAN you are. 5. The buffet looked so beautiful (like actually beautiful) afterwards and fit very nicely in the room. The stain choice, the hardware, the conditioning wax...I love it all. 6. That Edison bulb lamp in front of the snow outside was magical. 7. SUBSCRIBED!!!
