The lack of a "why" is an issue in the American way of life in general these days. In the private sector, in local government and as you guys have said here in the military. This is the big fix we need.

Another great podcast having me riveted to the useful information being provided in an entertaining way. A perspective to consider is military-unique human performance standards exist for repurposing linked to casualties on the battlefield. The only change occurring after the Second World War is career retention of enlisted in military service requires the enlisted service member to ascend into higher skill levels and the NCO leadership ranks. To achieve means to develop and prepare enlisted service members for assignment to leadership positions mandatory PME providing academic instructional exposure to leadership fundamentals is integrated into qualification requirements for award of 5, 7, 9, and 0 skill levels. FYI, until the Air Force removed warrant officer rank from its force structure mix the 0-skill level was the Warrant Officer skill level. The 0-skill level identifies designated E-9s enlisted leadership positions at the highest levels. To some degree, enlisted AFSCs accommodate a range of physical profile (PULHES) standards with only a few AFSCs requiring the service member to acquire and sustain a military unique occupation-specific fitness standard (i.e., the Operator Fitness standard). While NCO rank brings with it limited authority to compel obedience and compliance, a poor in ability and competency that frustrates to building trust and loyalty from others soon finds the NCO failing and floundering in effectively leading the small team accomplishing a mission in the operational environment.

I always wonder why there was a ASVAB standards for Spec Ops and Combat jobs if you have a HS diploma the government has already prove you can read and write...They should be graded on PT must studs are not book smart just makes no sense too me but thats my opinion

Classification into an enlisted military occupation code (AFSC, MOS, Rate-NEC) have performance specification requirements a bit more complicated than having the ability to read and write. This is why ASVAB test scores and physical profile (MEPS Medical examination) are the basic determinants for enlisted occupation classification. Some enlisted occupations due to mission area driven human performance requirements also have personality trait and occupation-specific fitness requirements. A high school diploma and even having a higher-level academic diploma doesn't assure being adequately prepared for entry into military service into those enlisted occupation specialty codes existing to provide an operational capability connected to a mission area. Wanting confidence of entry into mission area (AFSPECWAR) enlisted AFSCs is why many folks watch these podcasts as the AFSCs being focused on are the toughest to prepare for prior to committing to an initial entry into military service enlistment.
