I was raised by a horrible malignant abusive narcissistic mother. I am now 55, and I am the complete opposite of evil. I have so much empathy, for every living creature. I don't even want to harm a bug. I have been in situations in my past, where my anger has been large , yet I was able to somewhat keep it under control. So,I can say, both my brother and I, didn't turn out like our horrible mother 😊

Mr Eagleman, This lecture is GENIUS! Oh My God! The themes you grapple with and how eloquently you articulate them, is amazing! Your lecture is so FAAAAAAR reaching, I am so grateful to you for summarizing the content of my 3 pounder, which I couldn’t speak so well, unbelievable..! A special thanks for your discussion on schizophrenia, because I always regarded it as you described. Not solely genetic but a composition of contributing factors. My entire life I had to champion my idea because all fingers pointed at me with the assumption that I’d inherit my mother’s schizophrenia. She was an immigrant during a difficult time. Your discussion validates my lived understanding, this is a relief. Thank you.

what an amazing approach to understanding not only distressed but also how to understand what we understand

Your explanation about possible causes of schizophrenia and immigrants (the incredible stress of moving to a vastly different country) made me wonder about the connection between schizophrenia and asd. Your videos are amazing, thank you!

Starting at about 29:40 where he brings up the "observer effect". The observer effect is not a mystery to physicists, only to those that misundertand the concept, or have fallen victime to being taugfht that consciousness somehow effects observations in quantum mechanics. That is just simply not true at all. Observations are 100% independent of conciousness. In order for us to measure quantum systems we need to interact with that system in order to make a measurement. An example is to measure a magnetic field, we need to insert some apparatus to detect that field. That detection changes what was going on and what would be happening if you did not insert your apparatus to measure it. To observe say something as small as an electron, we have to bounce a photon off of the electron so that the photon can then carry that information back to us for our brains to interpret the information the photon carries.

Consciousness is omnipotent and transcendent. Cognition is emergent.

It's NOT true that physicist use ONLY reductionism in their models. The whole branch of physics call Statistical Mechanics is, in fact, all about emergent properties of matter. A single molecules of matter does not have a temperature or a pressure. These are properties of. and only of, large, collections of molecules, This has been recognized by physics for more than 200 years. So its just wrong to say say that physics has proceeded by ever increasing reductionism.

The content is so good. Have you considered hiring a professional to present it? All do respect. I really want to listen to every single one of these videos but I can’t because the way you talk is annoying and caustic. I realize that is a personal preference and I apologize. My goal is not to insult you - this is great content - I just think your viewership would skyrocket if you had someone more charismatic present it. Again - I never mean to insult - I’m a big fan - I just cant listen to this anymore despite my hunger for the content. 😢
