he Kerala Police crime branch has taken custody of Shaju Zacharia, the second husband of Jolly Joseph who is accused of six serial killings. The arrest was in connection with a case of mysterious deaths of six members of a Catholic family in Kozhikode over a period of 14 years. Police summoned 44-year-old Shaju for interrogation on Monday morning and took him in custody after his statements were found to be contradictory. Killings to marry Shaju Earlier, Shaju, a high school teacher, had told police that he was unaware of the circumstances surrounding the deaths of his former wife Sili and two-year-old daughter Alphine. He said he did not suspect Jolly to be behind the mysterious deaths. However, Shaju's account was contradicted when Jolly told police that she had revealed her involvement in the deaths before their marriage. She had told him masterminded the killings to marry Shaju and poisoned them as per her plan. Jolly had killed her husband and Shaju's wife and she and Shaju married each other in 2017. Shaju is the cousin brother of Roy Thomas, Jolly's first husband. Earlier both Shaju and his father Zachariah had told police that they had no prior knowledge about the mysterious deaths in the family. Now, police are planning to re-interrogate Shaju 's father Zachariah. Police found that after Jolly's arrest, Shaju vacated his house and shifted his belongings, including the computer to another destination. It is suspected that he was trying to destroy evidence regarding his prior knowledge about the serial killings. More mysterious deaths emerge. Meanwhile, the crime branch has also started an investigation into the death of a local Congress politician Mannilethil Ramakrishnan who had financial dealings with Jolly and another woman in Mukkam. Ramakrishnan died in May 2016 due to a heart attack. Ramakrishnan's son Rohit told police that his father had lost around Rs 55 lakh in a property deal in 2008 and family never suspected his death. Police are also planning to interrogate 11 persons including two local politicians who were in frequent contact with Jolly. Sensational serial killings shock Kerala Investigation revealed that Jolly served cyanide-laced with food to the victims. The first reported killing was executed in 2002 by Jolly wherein the victim was identified as her mother-in-law, Anamma Thomas. Six years later in 2008, Jolly allegedly killed her father-in-law Tom Thomas. In 2011, it was the turn of Jolly's then-husband Roy Thomas. The killing spree continued at regular intervals in the residence of the Thomas family. The next victim in the queue was Roy Thomas' maternal uncle Mathew who died under similar circumstances in 2014. Two years later, another close relative Sili, the wife of Shaju(Jolly's paramour), and her one-year-old child died under similar circumstances. The police investigation into the serial killings confirmed that all the victims died soon after consuming food. Besides, Jolly's presence in all the six deaths was a striking feature, pointing towards her involvement in the killings. With no concrete clues, the investigation into the killings could have been buried in the police files as blind murders. However, Roy Thomas' brother Rojo, who lives abroad, approached the Superintendent of Police and expressed his suspicion over the mysterious serial deaths. In fact, Rojo was next in line to be eliminated by Jolly. However, as Rojo lived abroad, he and his family members remained out of the reach of the killers. Once convinced with Rojo's revelations on the mystery deaths of his family members, the police exhumed the mortal remains of the deceased persons from their graves and sent them for forensic examination. The initial reports indicated poisoning.
Sources said that during her long interrogation, Jolly finally confessed to the police that potassium cyanide, arranged by her friend Mathew, was used to kill all the victims. As far as the motive is concerned, Jolly wanted to marry her former husband's cousin Shaju and they both eyed the property of the Thomas family.

You have to pronounce as "kholikode" , Sirji. It is in kerala. This "cyanide" is not new for south india. This is concealed in a small packet and wore as a necklace by LTTE members. While at the time they get caught by police or army, they just take that cyanide packet in their tongue. It's just within few seconds, they die on the spot. It reacts very faster. So, almost all LTTE members used to have it always on the neck. It was all explained in south indian media "proudly" as tamil "liberals" in tamilnadu on 1980s itself. In most of the north side, and western media during 1980s never coverup the crimes and about LTTE in their medias. South side crimes were not known much during those days as well as these days too, not via media. Due to social network platform, now many things are coming out.
