Ben and Mat sail Little Wing from Port Cygnet to ‘The Greatest Marina In The World’ located in Prince Of Wales Bay, just north of Hobart. A distance of 54nm travelled over two days (14:45hrs at the helm).
Mat cooks up some Butter Chicken and asks Ben to share his wisdom on big and little boats.
On day two the wind blows over 30kts and they are forced to make a few changes before something breaks…
A new custodian will take Little Wing’s helm soon. Will it be you?

If I could, there is no other boat I would love to own so dearly, as Little Wing. So lovely.

Great video. I was in Hobart last November. It’s a few years since I’d been. Such a lovely sailing area. You chaps are lucky.

What a great channel, love the wildlife too. Besides missing the snakes because it's a bit early in the season, you just need to find a Thylacine and the Tasmanian critter collection would be complete! ;)

What an awesome adventure. No 1. sailing channel on you tube. No bullshit just sailing, basic seamanship and a few laughs.

Mat, I love your channel. Excellent sailing videos and most entertaining. The one thing that's letting them down is the terrible wind noise. You've got to get ""fluffies" for your microphones- ie those little furry windsocks- Rycote is one brand that springs to mind. If you're just using in-camera mics, perhaps look into adding an external mic with a windsock. And if all else fails, apply a noise reduction filter to your sound track. The radio mic was/is a good idea too. All the best and stay salty!

I don't know how you end up with so many different terrific boats, but it's great to see you sailing them all.

I just stumbled upon your channel, I had a friend that built wooden boats and also did repair work in Melbourne and up on the Hawkesbury he purchased timber from my boutique mill. I believe he studied at the Hobart wooden boat school his name was Lew he died suddenly earlier this year, he used the big dam on my property to test the boats for leaks and how they sat in the water, and excellent wood worker gone to soon.

I sailed on The Blizzard last year from Noumea to Auckland and it is an amazing boat. Some interesting weather and decent seas the first few days and it just chewed up the miles in relative comfort.

A great sail in a great little boat. You blokes make it look easy. A very nice and desirable Welsford design, and I'd own in a heart beat. Keep up the great videos. Cheers

Was at Charlottes cove the other day (went fishing with a mate) and thought, wow what a little piece of paradise this is, def coming back with my boat and staying a few nights this summer! Great sailing as always, and yeah what is it with these persistent 20+kt winds!

Really enjoy these videos but please invest in one of those fuzzy microphone covers. The wind noise is unbearable in some shots

Matt. What boats are permanently in your stable? Your relationship with them seem transitional rather than ‘Custodial’ there have been many.

I guess there are small boats and small boats. My boat (Mulberry), a 1974 Swanson 30 (29.4), is for my money a small boat and is actually one of the smallest to have competed in races like the S2H (6 times). However, asides this any boat that can give you pleasure out on the water is fine by me. The key being to enjoy what you have and importantly to be out there having fun. Afterall, when you consider what is the smallest boat to have circumnavigated the world (Serge Testa’s Acrohc Australis (3.6m) I guess one has to be cognisant that anything is possible if you wish to give it a go. Hmn, I would have to disagree with you re the best marina being POW, I am biased but realistically the best is actually the DSS 😁

You guys rely on Nav watches for boatspeed and stuff seems big enough and robust enough to be practical. Can I ask the make/model you use? Thanks. Cracking channel!

Great content, but you really must sort out the wind noise. If Sam Holmes can do it, you surely can? As a long term resident of Prince of Wales Bay Marina, I agree, it’s just the best place to keep a boat and hang out with like minded sailors.

A Kestral wind meter would be an idea to have on board, instead of guessing the wind. But I like the look of the boat. Though I don't have the ability to build one.
