Get a job as grocery store cashier. You're going to get yelled out, it requires you to get yelled at for mistakes, and you're on your feet for 8-10 straight hours.

I am a landscaper. During the winter I average between 15-20k steps with 8-10 hours on foot. Summertime averages 25k+ steps 12+ hours a day on feet. Most of the steps are with a weed eater or a 30lb backpack blower on. You get to spend a lot of time digging holes, carrying heavy objects, and completing physical tasks within a team.

Catering isn’t a bad side job to get where I work the pays pretty good. You spend a ton of time on feet moving and lifting things. The events I do on average range from 2-8 hours so it’s pretty flexible depending on your time. The longest shift I had was 13 hours and I spent the majority of it on my feet. The time I spent sitting was driving to the place but when I was there I spent my shift lifting trash bags, tables, chairs, and up to 40-50 lbs of food at a time.

hospitality is the same I would do 20k steps for three months because we were in season

Talking about functional fitness. Total tendon and ligament training and useful skill. Was a carpenters union hammer swinger, but the badasses were the ironworkers. Any construction job is a decent workout. (even electricians) and decent money. And too much fun.

I can 100% confirm the lifeguard thing, if possible do beach lifeguard because it’s way more physical. I went the AFSOC Aviation route because I went the officer route but 6 of my buddies that were beach lifeguards all made it through the pipe and are on team.

Humble suggestions *FedEx AM/PM distribution package handler* was crazy during the holidays, great opportunity for grip/core strength & learning how to “Tetris” shipping containers In a large enough Hospital, *unit orderly/housekeeping/general services* are GUARANTEED to blow 10k steps out of the water per shift & you might observe/assist medical procedures/emergencies

I feel that spending my childhood as an extreme sports pentathlete who was in marching band, and who worked at a climbing gym AND a restauraunt starting at the age of 13 prepaired me far better for my time in the military(dispite not inlisting untill I was 26) than any collegeate sport in highschool would have. I was used to being on my feet and moving my body along any plane necessary to accomplish my tasks...for hours or days on end, i knew how to oroent myself and move through the forest, i could march and move as a single unit with a large group of people performing highly technical acts, i was accustomed to traversing all manners of terrain under weight, i was used to working with small groups within larger organisational structures, and though i had teamates; their main purpose was saftey and support...ultimately my sucess or failure came down to my efforts. Yes, I will 100% say that I believe growing up a rock climbing band dork set me up WAAAAAYYYY better for success than if I had been a highschool football stud. I've known far to many of them in my career to not see and feel the difference. Be a nerd, get a job on your feet, and enjoy things that are uncomfortable.... and you will be ok.
