Thank you so much for these helpful videos. I am starting sea fishing after giving up game fishing ( so few salmon now ) and at the age of 81 I have so much to learn! These videos are so helpful and caught my first sea fish lure fishing last week, a garfish, so was very pleased as I followed your lure fishing advise. Once again many thanks. Patrick

Patrick Sir that’s wonderful to receive this message - haven’t had a garfish for two years - strange fish aren’t they - the demise of salmon is sad but you do pick up the occasional sea trout on lures as a real accidental catch- we filmed some recently and they looked I’ll or very spent though - thanks again

Glad it was helpful!. Its always good to try tying your own rigs. With winter coming its a great thing to do when you cant be fishing. In recent years i get mine made up-and making your own teach us a lot about how to hook the fish too

Thanks Jamie, I like the korda green ones but I find round or needle Nose ones the most versatile I think it helps to feel the pressure of the crimp. These can be foun in most DIY shops

Hi im just getting back into sea fishing. My question is, dose the crimps not damage the line? TIA Andy
@SaltwaterAngler
@SaltwaterAngler 6 ай бұрын
No not really - good quality ones are soft and as long as they are crimped properly can slide on the line. Do make sure you check closely to make sure they haven’t been over crimped !

So would I tie these rigs to a shock leader of equal strength as the rig attached to a lighter mainline? Thanks
@SaltwaterAngler

Yes pretty much a main body of the rig line is similar in breaking strain as the leader.

is a leader line absolutely necessary? Im a complete noob and watched another video and he just used the main line running down to a sinker, swivel and hook...? Thanks x
@SaltwaterAngler
@SaltwaterAngler 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment , a leader is not essential if you are using thicker line straight through (from the rig to reel for example) I used to fish 25lb line , no leader but was only gently lobbing 1oz weights. Another way not to use a leader is with say 80lb breaking strain braid and 3 oz that I use a lot for general beach fishing. That said a leader is really important for any power cast or beginning with snappier casts. That weight can be be lethal. I use a 60lb tapered leader with 18lb main line. If I’m not using braid.

being a complete noob, it might be more helpful if you put rough sketches of what the end product should look like from a distance for us to gauge the positions of the stuff , length, etc . it's hard to visualize what we're trying to achieve with everything just in close up. but thanks for the videos in any case. :)
